Patreon Year End Awards: Trent’s Year In Dramas!

Hey everyone!

We’re having guest posts from the lovely folks on Patreon, to help us take stock of our drama years, kinda-sorta like what we had last year, woot! 🥳

If you missed our earlier posts, you can check them out as follows: phl1rxd, j3ffc, Uyen, Sean, Martina, David, Natalia, MC, Leslie, Reem, Elaine, Kun, lotusgirl.

Today, I’m pleased to announce that Trent is sharing his drama year! (Which means that, yes, it’s time for me to write my own year-end post too! 😅)

I’m so glad that Trent made time for this year-end wrap-up post, while also anchoring our Winter Sonata group watch with his brilliantly, hilariously snarky posts. It’s no mean feat that he’s managed to write this post AND this week’s Winter Sonata episode notes, on top of work and family commitments. Mad props to ya, Trent! 🤩

I’m always curious to know what Trent thinks of a particular show, because, even though our drama tastes aren’t identical (his taste accommodates more darkness and blood than mine, for one 😅), they overlap a great deal, so much so that if Trent says that he really likes a certain show, I’m more than likely to sit up with a bit of interest.

..Which is how I ended up watching My Name and Hellbound, for example, heh. So if your drama taste is like mine, you’d likely be pretty interested in Trent’s drama opinions too. 😁

Trent also writes about dramas on his own blog, which you can visit here.

I hope you guys enjoy!

Announcement: FATED “Winter Sonata” Commemorative Group Watch!

You know how sometimes, certain moments seem to coming looking for you, instead of the other way around?

Kinda like how my getting to attending Gong Yoo’s fanmeeting in Tokyo happened, in 2013? (If you missed that, I wrote about the entire experience here!)

WELL. It honestly feels like this next group watch, which I’m announcing here in this post, is something that came looking for me, instead of the other way around.

It feels like FATE, you guys. Which, y’know, is PERFECT, because Winter Sonata is ALL about Fate – well, Fated Love – too, heh.

Language Books Review: Learn to write Korean

Hi everyone!

We’ve got a different sort of post today: a language workbook review!

Basically, a while ago, I received an email from the author of these Korean language learning workbooks “Learn to write Korean,” asking if I was located in the US, and if I’d be interested to receive a free copy each, of their Korean writing workbooks, in exchange for a fair review.

The books are described as:

“A fun two-volume Korean workbook series, tailored specifically to those who want to learn the dialogue they hear so often in Korean dramas. Each volume features 100 of the most common words and phrases from K-dramas, and provides definitions, pronunciation guides, and tracing practice (with ample space) for each word or phrase!”

I thought that sounded like a potentially fun and useful resource for us kdrama fans, and accepted the invitation. However, because I’m not located in the US, Trent (who is!) kindly agreed to receive the workbooks, in exchange for a fair review – and here it is!

Big thanks to Trent, for reviewing these books for us! I hope you guys find this useful! (Links to purchase the books are at the end of the review.)

Stories from the community: Trent’s story!

If you didn’t already know, we’ve got a special series to kick off the new year! Guests posts, by patrons on Patreon, sharing their personal drama stories, mostly around the topic of “How did you get into dramas?” and “What does your first drama mean to you?” – with flexibility to go off on personal tangents, of course. 😁 Feel free to share your stories too, in the comments!

This guest series is MC‘s brainchild (thanks MC! ❤️). You can check out the earlier posts in this series as follows: MCSeanShahzJJMartinaBethUyen, Ella & Leslie.

This is the last guest post in the series, and it’s brought to you by Trent, who, aside from Sean, is the other person whose time-bending skills I continue to marvel at. The number of dramas Trent manages to watch, while still leading a full life, continues to impress me – and he’s got lots of thoughtful observations on all of the dramas too, which also impresses me. Thanks, Trent, for making time to share your story with us!

Patreon Year End Awards: Trent’s Year In Dramas!

In case you missed it, we’re doing something special and different to end off the drama year this year! Guests posts, by patrons on Patreon!

You can read more details, and check out Shahz’s inaugural post, here, and JJ‘s post here!

After today’s post, there will be three more guest posts by mystery guest writers, whose identities will be revealed when their various posts go live. And then we’ll cap everything off with a poll, where you’ll be able to pick YOUR favorites for the year, from among the gems identified in these posts. How exciting! 🤩

..But, wait! Didn’t I already say, last time, that there would be three more..? Heh. Very sharp spotting there! Basically, one more mystery guest writer has volunteered to share their picks for 2021, woot! 🥳

Today’s post is brought to you by Trent, who manages to watch way more drama than I do! While I don’t think that Trent’s taste in dramas is identical to mine, we’ve had similar reactions to so many shows (most recently, Dali and the Cocky Prince 😉), that I tend to take a little extra notice when he recommends a show, coz the chances are pretty good, that I might like it too.

Trent’s got soo many nominees in all the various categories today, that I thought this image, of a sea of awards, fit this post quite perfectly.. I imagine that if Trent could, he’d give out many more awards than he’s given out today, heh. 😁 Thanks lots, Trent, for sharing your drama year with us!!
