Hey everyone!
Like what we did for the past couple of years, we’re having guest posts from the lovely folks on Patreon, to help us take stock of our drama years, yay! 🥳
We’ll be seeing about 2 guest posts per week, and this will unfold into January 2023, and that’s perfectly ok.
My annual year-in-review, which usually comes out in December, will also come out in January (or thereabouts 😅), after all the guest posts have been published.
If you missed our earlier posts, you can check them out as follows: Ele, Natalia.
Today, I’m pleased to announce that JJ is sharing her drama year.
If you’ve read JJ’s posts before, you’d know that JJ’s a bundle of positive energy. You can feel it, just by reading her, no exaggeration.
JJ’s also one of our MVPs over on Patreon, for being so forthcoming, warm and welcoming, whether you’re a newcomer just stepping foot into the space, or a longtime member who’s just found your way back after going MIA for a bit, or an everyday hanger-outer who never went anywhere.
Thanks for sharing your positive energy with us, JJ!
I hope you guys enjoy!
~ KFG ❤️
Hey Everyone!!
Where did this year go?
Seriously! How did we fly through 2023 so quickly? 🤔
Wasn’t it just the end of 2022 and we were discussing Alchemy Of Souls Part 2 AND First Love: Hatsukoi???

Well, anyways, here we are with another Drama Year under wrap to discuss our favorites from the year.
Many, many, many, thanks as always to KFG for allowing us to put our words on her space that she created over the past eleven years. 11 YEARS PEOPLE !!! Amazing, isn’t it?❤️
Congrats to you KFG on a very fine accomplishment ❤️❤️❤️
Alrighty, time to get serious. Lets go!!!!!! I gots lots to say 🤭
Oh wait, right! Before I get going KFG wanted us to say a little about ourselves.
A Little Bit About Me
Here’s my real quick CV- I am the self appointed resident Sci/Fi Fantasy Guru around these parts 🦄
KFG has kindly let me write several times for her blog and you can find them here and here, as I get my shameless self promotion out of the way along with my Fantasy Favorites in my former posts.
Yes, TKEM ❤️, I am talking about you again, Sean.
You mostly can find me over on Patreon in the Deep Dive Zone chit chatting away with everyone about everything and then some.
With the mini introduction out of the way, lets Dive in!!!
My Drama Year
What an interesting Kdrama year it has been for me as I have a HUGE list of favorites and a mixture of Japanese Dramas, Kdramas, Cdramas and even Taiwanese Dramas on my list.
So buckle in as we speed through my list at break neck speed cuz I have LOTS to say and lots of dramas to cover.
Ready????
Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am going to get straight to the point and let everyone know my absolute favorite for 2023 is the Kdrama Moving.
Wow.
What an intense ride that Show was for all of us discussing Moving in the Deep Dive Zone and with KFG.
I made the mistake of watching Moving as the Show aired instead of being patient and waiting for all episodes to drop.
But, boy, I am glad I did not wait and just put myself through the wringer waiting each week for new episodes so we could talk about what we just saw in the last episodes.
We sure were active in the Deep Dive weren’t we for this one? Many thanks to Trent for braving the waters and being first in our community to check out this Drama giving me a heads up when to hide my eyes!
And real quick about the violence in Moving. It’s there and does not pull any punches for sure.
And would I rather watch a Show with no violence? YES!!!! But, I would have been very sad to miss Moving because they did not sensationalize the violence.
The Show used the violence to tell an important story and none of the violence ever felt gratuitous. Did I use FF and mute? Most definitely.
I did prefer the quieter moments though and, thankfully, we had lots of those moments in Moving.
I am not even sure how to talk about this one because there is so much ground to cover on Moving because the Show got everything right at all times.
From the casting (Thanks, Naksu!!!!) to the writing, to the production, to the delivery, to, to, to. Really, I am just not that technical person who gets into the plot devices used or the tropes or did they connect the dots, etc.
I am all about the emotions a Show can drag out of me. And this one had it in spades all over the map and then some.
Here goes the Spoiler Section, so hide your eyes if you have not seen Moving, yet. And, if you have not seen Moving, yet, get going!!!
SPOILER SECTION – I still am not over the one scene that ruined us all – “Teddy Bear Daddy funeral scene”. I forgot who named him Teddy Bear Daddy, but it sure wasn’t me, but I am using it here though if thats ok? 🥰
What a moment. What an actor. What devastation.
I am getting choked up just thinking about that entire sequence. Who wasn’t hoping for somehow a happy ending for his wife to survive even though we knew from the start she was gone. I was! I know I am not alone, right?
How the actor, Ryu Seung Ryong, pulled off the whole episode is something I thought about a good amount for a couple weeks after the episode.
I wanted to search for the Behind the Scenes on this one, but decided against my normal let’s go find more view on this one.
I wanted that moment just to live in that episode. I am sure a gaffer or two, extras, director, sound guy, well, just anyone on set did not have a dry eye on during THAT Scene. END SPOILER
Why is Moving my favorite of 2023? I am sure most of you can guess the answer, right? Because the Show was all about Love. Plain and simple. Love in some of its many different forms all across the board. ❤️ Need I say more? No ❤️
Just Go watch Moving, please ❤️
Now, we will move on to my favorite OTP of the year 🥰🥰🥰
Many thanks to Sean for this previewing this one and giving the Go Ahead (uyen did you notice what I just did 😇🥰) before I dove in myself.
Oh, and just a side note, sniffle, Im still so bummed phl1rxd that the Show did not work for you 😭😭😭
But, we will always have “TAIFU !” won’t we? ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Ok, Ok. Rambling. Here I am getting back on track.
My favorite OTP is from a Cdrama called Parallel World. And the best part it’s a Sci FI Drama. Yesssssss! Sci Fi for the Win!!!!!!
As I told my Sci Fi buddy Adrian (Hi, Adrian 👋), this is light Sci Fi, but it’s still Sci Fi!!! YAY for us Sci Fi Fans. And what do I mean by Sci Fi Lite?
Well, the Show does not delve deeply into World Building or the whys and hows of everything we see as is done in some Sci Fi Shows/Movies.
We get just enough to get a feel of where we are and why certain things are happening or will be happening, but not to the level of detail Sci Fi Fans love in a movie or Show.
And, that totally works here, well, at least for me, because the characters, main and supporting, are so excellent, they keep your attention the entire time.
The Cdrama is based on a book written by a female author who writes strong female leads in her novels. Even SHE, the author, LOVES the Drama based on her Work.
*SQUEAL* Read for yourself here 🥰
The actor, Ni Ni, knocked her character out of the park and then some and then came back over and over AND over again for more knocking it out of the park.
What an actor.
I am so blown away by her performance she is now one of my favorite all time Sci Fi Female Characters EVER.

Ni Ni now shares the spot with Claudia Black who is an Aussie (Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!) who has been my Sci Fi favorite since her performance as Aeryn Sun in the fantastic Aussie Sci Fi Show Farscape which aired OVER 20 years ago.
Farscape Season 1 Trailer just because 🥰
Coming back to the Cdrama , Parallel World, after that wonderful digression down Sci Fi memory lane, the partner to Ni Ni in Parallel World is Bai Yu who already stole my heart in the Cdrama The Bond ( Hi Bestie🥰)
Bai Yu continues to prove what a fine actor he is in the varied roles he takes on during his ongoing and hopefully very long career – The Long Night, Suddenly This Summer, Love 020, Thank You, Doctor and so many more.
Bai Yu’s character, Chang Dong, is an excellent partner to Ye Liu Xi. No damsel in distress there. No needing to ride in on a white horse and save Ni Ni.(Who started that by the way? )
They work together as partners and find their way into each other’s hearts where they belong 🥰
Bai Yu knows how to be still and quiet in his acting. He does more and says little even if his character has lots of lines. He is a fine acting partner to Ni Ni as you could see in this interview together 🥰
Of course, my favorite OTP probably ever (except for Farscape’s John Crichton and Aeryn Sun) has a great OST, too. 🥰
Especially the main opening song. Give a listen 🥰
Well now that we have addressed those two important items we can move on to the most important section!
My Stats for the Year!
My Stats for 2023, (not that’s it’s a competition Mr. Fletcher) (aka SEAN aka Drama Time Lord) even shocked me a bit that I managed some rewatches (TKEM) while watching new Dramas 🥰
I am wrapping up the year with 100 Dramas under my belt with ZERO (yes, Kate, ZERO) and I mean ZERO drops. YAY ME! Ok, there were some indefinite pauses and pauses with good intentions of going back, but no officials drops (Kate, you serial dropper you😝).
I have had one official drop in my Kdrama history and thats Be Melo which apparently “I” am the only one around here who wasn’t a fan of the Show 🤨
BUT, I am giving the Show a special shout out for all my Kdrama friends (including Merij and Leslie) who loved this one because they all say that the Show was pretty special. Maybe if they had a unicorn walking through a scene or two, I would have been Ok with the Show. Doubtful, though….
Anyways, the break down is as follows Sean aka Drama Time Lord aka Mr. Fletcher, again NOT a competition….
50 – Kdramas
20 – Cdramas
4 – Japanese Dramas
3 – Thai and Taiwanese Dramas
2 – Movies
5 – Rewatches (You know it TKEM 🥰)
And wrapping up the stats section, I decided to throw everything into a trusty old excel spreadsheet to tally up the episode count because it IS a competition Mr. Fletcher and I am at 1,917 episodes at the moment. Ha!
Ok. Sooooo, there might be a +/- 10-20 error ratio on the total episode count. Pssst…Princess Jasmine, I threw that in just for you being the Maths Queen 🥰 But whats 10 or 20 episodes amongst friends?
Whew. Thats over. Always soooo “fun” to have a Math moment, no? My brain hurts now 🥴
So back to the fun stuff! The moment everyone has been waiting for me to discuss 🥰
My favorites of 2023!!!
Here they finally are in no particular order. Only organized by country because again who likes to be picked last on the playground?! 🥰
Kdramas
Hit the Spot – Many Thanks Uyen 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Had no idea what to expect from this Show except I remembered Uyen said NSFW.
WOW! Was she right and um, yeah. Those opening 10 minutes 😳🫣 I applaud the writer and director for making this Show and for the cast jumping in and delivering such amazing 10 episodes.
Show that had so much to say and said so well. Kdramas really can do it all, can’t they? (I think I borrowed this line from someone in the Deep Dive Zone, thank you!! Leslie? Was it you?)
Call It Love – Thank you so much, Alexandra 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I definitely would have passed Call it Love up if Alexandra had not raved so beautifully about the Show on the Deep Dive. She spoke so lovingly about the Show, I thought I must give this one a chance. And I am sure glad I did.
What a beautifully made Show with a great soundtrack and beautiful cinematography. I plan on a rewatch of the Show one day soon that’s how much I fell for Call It Love 🥰
The Good Bad Mother – Thanks Sean for promising me I would like this one. You were so right! 🥰
I did not think I would like this Show and ended up LOVING Good Bad Mother and as usual wanted more time with the characters. I loved seeing Veteran actor Ra Mi Ran have a lead role 🥰
I kept thinking our Lee Do Hyun was so lucky to be acting alongside such a Veteran actor. They must have had such fun with their roles and their scenes together.
At least, I hope they did?!
I would love to see the Behind the Scenes of this Show with those two. Elaine? Can you find some please ? 🤭😉🥰
And our second FL, Ahn Eun Jin was just a delight. I last saw her in Hospital Playlist and she so impressed me here. Then, I heard, she knocked it out of the park with My Dearest!
I’ll watch that one much later when I want my heart ripped out of my chest and stomped on. I don’t need another Red Sleeve December, thank you very much 💔
And can we just talk about those child actors? Could those twins be any cuter? Gosh loved them so much ! And all the lines they had. Well, done you two. Well Done ❤️
See You in my 19th Life – Stand out and I picked this Show myself thank you very much
Y’all. I LOVED THIS SHOW. And I am so sad not more people love this Show. 😭😭😭
Netflix only gave the story 12 episodes and I think the Show would have benefited from the typical Kdrama format of 16 episodes. They had so much story to tell and I think for that reason we lost some of the story especially the ending.
Regardless, I loved the Show and the FL.
I could not wait for the next set of episodes to drop especially as they knew how to use cliffhangers, ARGH !!! And, I immediately downloaded the OST!
It’s my favorite OST for the year. Well, ok, I have two other favorites, so THREE Favorites in total 🙂 Ok, probably way more than that, I’ll have to go back and count 🧐🤨😂 Princess Jasmine? Can I send you the numbers and you do the math for me 😉🤭😂
King the Land – I heard everyone talking about this one and come on its Junho aka Mr. Red Shirtless. How could I not peek? ❤️
While this did not work for viewers or many on Patreon, I just loved the predictability and fun the actors had with this one.
I smiled most of the time and just had fun watching two veteran Idols do their acting thing. You could tell they were having fun the entire time. Kudos to them and thank you for the smiles and laughs. I loved ya both ❤️
Twinkling Watermelon – ❤️
I was so excited from the moment KFG dropped the trailer for this Show! I, also, was a bundle of nerves that I might have only fallen for the trailer and the Show wouldn’t deliver 😬
Luckily, the Show lived up to the premise and provided endless smiles throughout the Show. I may have wanted more in some areas and less in other areas. But overall, I just smile when I think about this one 😊
And y’all you want to talk about Bromance and Chemistry Ryeoun and Choi Hyun Wook have it spades and then some.
Carry on gentlemen. Carry on! See you in your next outing together. Maybe you will be like Goblin and Reaper doing commercials before we know it ❤️
Cdramas – ❤️❤️❤️
What a year for Cdramas! I sense a change in them or is it me that has changed? It’s always the other person who has changed, right?! Buuuuut, it really doesn’t matter because they made up a good portion of my Watchlist and favorites this year.
(Ele – so excited we have some of the same Cdramas on our lists!!! Especially one in particular 💜)
Most of my Cdramas are all because of phl1rxd!!! And maybe 1 or 2 from Sean. Buuuut, phl1rxd gets ALL the credit!!!!
❤️❤️❤️ Thank you phl1rxd! ❤️❤️❤️
If phl1rxd! mentions a Cdrama to watch, I am off especially if its wuxia!!!! And if phl1rxd suggests to find something else, I am off to find something else than the Cdrama I had been considering.
My only sadness with phl1rxd for this year is that Parallel World AND Some Day One Day did not work for phl1rxd 😭😭😭😭😭. Sniffle….. TAIFU!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
But ALL these Cdramas worked for me and mostly suggested and verified by phl1rxd our resident Wuxia expert ❤️
The Starry Love – (Ele Look – Samesies 💜)
Let me tell you people, I did not know what to expect from this Show, but when that opening music rolled I was HOOKED by the OST alone.
Because of the opening music, I had been hopeful I’d be in for a great ride. I still though kept my expectations set kinda low and pretty much “knew” the storyline and where we were headed until I DIDNT!
What an awesome surprise to have a fabulous, feisty, spunky, interesting FL who was not in any shape or form a damsel in distress.
AND BIG SPOILER – she has a great relationship with her twin sister. Such a nice change not to have women or sisters pitted against one another. And both female leads just nailed their characters so well, I loved when they were on screen together. SPOILER END
So for the FL check this one out and just enjoy the ride. Yes, there is romance and I thought the ML did a great job with his characters. But, I stayed with the Show for the two sisters. Well done, ladies, well done ❤️
Oh, but, BTW it’s one of those open ending ones you want to throw your slippers at the screen. But other than that the Show gets my seal of approval 🦄
On A Warm Cold Night – ❤️❤️❤️
Honestly, I took a moment or two to warm up to the Show.
I had to go a bit beyond my normal give Cdramas a 6 episode chance before pausing. I may have kept going because of phl1rxd because she said to keeping going and this has happened before with other Shows.
I am so glad I did though because once, I settled down a bit I got into the swing of things I had such fun with this Show. And of course, the OST helped a great deal.
By the end of the Show, I wanted more episodes and just more time with the cast as they really did have more stories to tell. Well done team ❄️🥶🦄
Nothing But You – Thank you Natalia for the heads up on this one ❤️❤️❤️
WOW! After my Nirvana in Fire Binge last December or my Love Like the Galaxy watch, I did not expect to see Wu Lei like this in a modern drama; a Noona Romance no less! Where is his long hair??
I believe Natalia put this one on my radar. Many thanks she did because I enjoyed the Show thoroughly for being a mature Noona romance.
Take that Something in the Rain! No, I am still not bitter. Really I am not…just another short digression down memory lane…..Merij I know you are down this bitter lane with me!
Til the End of the Moon – Somehow either I told Kate or Kate told me and phl1rxd verified this Show – ❤️❤️❤️
Ok. I am going to have a hard time adequately describing this Show.
As of my writing of my EOY post, I still have the last five episodes to watch of the Show.
Yes, I know how the Show ends and I have spoiled myself terribly over the Show. I just cannot bring myself to finish the Show and go through that heartbreak ESPECIALLY when I know the book ends differently (hint- happily).
Show is worth every minute of your time with the gorgeous costuming, the sets, the actors, and of course, especially, the ML. It’s really just his Show.
Meet Yourself – ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Now what could Til the End of the Moon and Meet Yourself have in common for me? Well, I still have the last five episodes of Meet Yourself to watch as well 😂
I had so much fun in this village hanging with all the peeps and the story. So I am draaaaaaaaagin’ out my watch even if I know the ending.
I’ll get there…eventually. But thats the vibe of the Show? A quiet meandering pace of life, no? Don’t rush me people, I’ll get there 🥰
Oh BTW, the first episode though, if you have not seen the Show, is quite intense and most raved about Episode 1. Deeply poignant and intense. Powerful ❤️
Here is the OST just for you Kate so you can relive the memories of those songs 😘😂
Lost You Forever – ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I guess I am pretty lucky because I had not seen the FL in any of her other dramas prior to this one, so I had no frame of reference for her work. I am glad this was my first time seeing because I loved her performance so much from the get go.
Totally sucked into the Show from the opening scene and now hanging on the last scene waiting for Part Two to show up whenever that might be when the Cdramas powers decide.
Sigh. I can wait? Right? No, but what choice do I have? I know REWATCH time 🤭

*I searched in Mandarin thanks to google translate to find the full OST for Lost You Forever and so glad I did. However, here is what is on YouTube though. Enjoy 🥰
How do I even describe My Journey to You? Complete and Total Sensory Overload. Such a visual feast.
Did they stick the landing for all of us? No not really and I am ok because the Journey to that point worked so well for me, I’ll allow the last episodes with all our unanswered questions and that ending.
However, THE most fun part of the Show was over in Patreon with Natalia’s comments on KFG’s Episode notes. Classics. Never laughed so hard consistently 😂 Well done, Natalia! Bravo! Gold Star for you 💫
Alliance – Thanks again Sean for another great suggestion. Loved this one – ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I did not know what to expect with Alliance. Initially, I had mixed up the description with the Kdrama “Agency” with this one somehow. And Sean said positive things about Alliance, I decided to take a peek. So glad I did!
We had three Fabulous Female leads leading this Show that kept me engaged the entire time.
And another one just when I thought I knew what I would be watching, the Show decided to surprise me and threw some fantastic character twists I could not be more pleased with during my Watch.
I hesitate to say anything more except just give this one a chance ❤️ Honestly, I am still bummed it was only 36 episodes. Sniffle.
I did enjoy the music during Alliance and the first song “She” is my favorite on this OST.
Mr. & Mrs. Chen – Oh is that you again Sean suggesting another fabulous Show to me? Thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I took a chance and decided to watch a 1900’s period piece which is not my normal choice because of Sean.
A beautiful period piece with gorgeous costuming that I kept focusing on in every scene.
Look at those suits! The women’s hats! Their dresses! All of the costumes. Beautiful.
The fabrics they had to have used must have felt fantastic in the quality, but might have been a bit itchy because I believe lots of the fabric from that time was wool? Someone correct me if I’m am wrong 🧐
Aside from the costumes, we have a fantastic female lead who is stunning in those costumes and delivery of her performance. Equally matched is her ML.
Another great team has been born and they keep your attention when they are together or alone. I get a little fidgety when neither is on the screen.
For certain, this is not an easy subject and we do have some very unpleasant scenes that require mute and FF ! However, the Show is not to be missed.
Here is a MV for Mr & Mrs. Chen instead of the OST! If you are adverse to spoilers look away…Leslie 🥰
And the Cdrama section would not be complete without my saying Lots and Lots and Lots of Thank you’s to KFG, Elaine and MC for all their Chinese translations and context. Completely invaluable and deepens my Cdrama watching all the time !
❤️❤️❤️ 谢谢 ❤️❤️❤️
Jdoramas (Nope! It’s not a typo. Sean says this is how we spell it 🤭)
What a special little Show that I rolled into watching right after First Love – Hatsukoi having only a slight idea about the premise of the Show. Only 11 episodes and worth every minute of each episode.
All about relationships, friendships, and family.
Just watch it. Trust me 🥰
Hold My Hand @ Twilight – Uyen again for the Win! 🥰
Fun and quirky shows are usually just not for me. Somehow this little Show won me totally over and put smiles on my face. Oh, buuuut, there is one curve ball (Again so sorry Merij 🫣) at the end, but the Show remedies itself mightily by the end 🥰
Make sure you watch until the end of each episode the credits AND through the dance sequence. The main leads are adorable doing their dance with a different ending in each one that ends up with them giggling at their final pose. 🥰
Phl1rxd? You saw this one, right? 🥰
Taiwanese
Someday or One Day – Movie – KFG & Crew ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Well, the Someday or One Day movie was the highlight of the year especially since KFG asked a group of us to watch and comment on movie.
What fun we had in this group effort with KFG, Leslie, Michele (podcaster extraordinaire!), MC, Elaine and I. ❤️
And you MUST check out Elaine’s slide diagrams when you watch this movie to keep it all together. She did an amazing job. Thanks again, Elaine ❤️
Lost Romance – Kate ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I would never have found this one if not for Kate ! Thanks Kate 🥰
We laughed and laughed and laughed some more. A fun creative Drama making good natured fun at the typical Kdrama tropes we all know and love or get irritated with (yes I am ending with a preposition, deal with it, I am 😂)
The two leads whose chemistry is so undeniable that you want to see them again in a serious drama.
Give it chance, y’all! Oh and FF through the villain story line to get to the good stuff!
What Kdramas do well/Honorable Mentions
I think all of us have commented we felt a wane in what we loved about Kdramas so well in the earlier part of the year ☹️
Well, that disappeared in this last quarter it seems! What a way to finish out the year Kdramas 🥰
I have listed out the the ones I really enjoyed and just reminded me of what made me love Kdramas originally – Castaway Diva, Daily Dose of Sunshine, Park’s Marriage Contract, My Demon, Moon in the Day and Matchmakers to name some of my end of year favorites.

Now it’s time for me to go get started on my next 100 Dramas for next year ❤️
I might have to up my game because I can hear Mr. Fletcher hot on my heels already for next year’s “Its Really NOT a competition until it IS a competition watch” 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Thanks for hanging in there with me until the end 🥰
Well…. that is if you are still here 😂
And if you are still here, a big thank you 🥰🥰🥰
Oh, one last thing before you go, please do enjoy this Mashup of two songs from Someday One Day Drama because its just that awesome every time I listen to the Song ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
’Til 2024, then 🥰
~JJ 🦄

Late to this discussion but I am here finally 🙂
Loved this post JJ! and I agree with you on Teddy Bear Daddy – that epsiode was really really hard to watch. And i think Moving was better suited for weekly episode watching – I saw this early this year(march 2025) and i was so addicted that I watched it over a weekend and was a complete mess.
I am now very curious to watch Parallel world. Maybe that should be my entry to cdramas.
The Good Bad Mother was amazing. Loved Mi Ran in it though I couldn’t digest some of her behaviour with her son, I could also see how her unresolved trauma would show up like that. and yes the twins were downright adorable.
I might just go and read all your guest posts now to the soundtrack of Parallel world 🙂
keep writing JJ!. Love these posts.
Another great post! I also loved Moving! I’m curious how well it fared with everyone else. I’m glad it was too rough for you. There was some gnarly fighting in it. Way to go , Sean, for helping jj get to see such a great show!
It wasn’t too rough.
@Lotusgirl – Thank you so much for reading my post 🥰🥰🥰 Wasnt Moving just the best?! I think it worked well for everyone, at least, over in the Deep Dive Zone. We had lots of discussions and cheering each other on because the fight scenes were pretty tough, but mute and ff helped immensely. And the fight scenes served the story, so that made it a bit easier.
Sean rocks! He comes up with great suggestions 🥰🥰🥰
Yes, Call It Love aka “My Mister – But With Romance” (Hulu) was exceptional. At least for those of us who relish shows that move slowly, savoring subtle but cumulative reveals from characters who work to hide their thoughts and feelings. Leading up to that surprisingly cathartic coda at the very end!
See You In My 19th Life (Netflix) – I keep meaning to check this one out. You mentioned show would have been better served with a longer run of 16 episodes. What would you say is the difference? This story versus the ones that are clumsily stretched out to 16 eps, when they only have 12 hours worth of story to tell?
Moving (Hulu) – yes, an excellent show, and a great example of when longer episode runs are definitely not gratuitous, since the writers used that time to go deep on multiple characters’ backstories. That aspect reminded me of ABC’s Lost, during its first and second season.
What, phl1rxd didn’t like the original Taiwanese Someday Or One Day? How is that possible? Inquiring minds want to know!
My Journey To You – we don’t watch many Chinese shows due to their length, but we loved this one. And unlike a number of viewers who post at KFG’s Patreon site, we thought the final episodes were entirely consistent with the preceding story. Granted, that very last scene was incredibly annoying, but once I stopped ranting while also stomping about the house, it was rather easy to overwrite in my memory, given all the rich drama that preceded it.
Btw, thanks JJ for all the shows you took the time to recommend to me over the last year. You’re sooo helpful. And so fun to tease!
@merij1 – Thanks for reading my post and commenting 🥰
Call it Love – Thats such an excellent point you made about Shows that move slowly! Thats why sometimes I really love Cdramas that people find bloated. I feel as if I am reading a novel and I enjoy the slow pace of the Show. For example, Meet Yourself. LOVE IT!!! I definitely plan on a rewatch with this one 🙂
19th Life – Had lots of stories to tell and would have been perfect in 16 episodes because she lived and remembered so many previous lives. For this 12 episodes Show, they rushed the ending and did not fully flush out their former past life experience which was important to the overall story. AND she owned her character and the screen as she normally does. If you ever get to it, you will see what I mean. Plus the OST is fantastic!
Exactly what you said about Moving could be applied to 19th Life. We needed more time for the characters backstories, former lives.
Ahhhh, Lost, now that was a great Show earlier on wasnt it? I officially dropped that one way before the end and my friends kept me updated. Amazing Show until it wasnt. Did you hang in there until the end of Lost?
I know ! phl1rxd tried with SOOD, I think even multiple times. Sniffle.
YAY!! Another fan of My Journey to You even to the end! I get why every was annoyed, but when I found out the Show was supposed to be two parts/two seasons but part 2 was canceled when it moved platforms it was easier to swallow. Wasnt intentional on the Show’s part. So I wrote my own little happy ending in my head 🙂
Ah you are so welcome Merij1! I am so glad some of them worked for you. 🥰 You crack me up CONSISTENTLY 🥰🥰🥰
Oh yes – thanks for mentioning Ahn Eun-Jin. She definitely did hit the ball so out of the park in My Dearest and you can take my / Sean word for it. And the twins – I only saw glimpses of them in YouTube and oh boy – the twin girl was so lovely and amazing. I am definitely watching The Good Bad Mother in the coming year as you have also raved about it.
@Princess.Jasmine – Ahn Eun Jin was so good in The Good Bad Mother, I am excited to see her turn in My Dearest. Especially after I read an article where she shared she had a hard time with prior to the Show starting everyone saying she was miscasted. She so proved them wrong, right?
Good Bad Mother is a little tough and worth the tough parts. I hope you enjoy the Journey with that one 🙂
Hello JJ – I quickly skimmed through the post and the only thing that caught my eye was TKEM – no surprises I guess 😜. Thanks for loving that drama so very much. It has turned out to be very special for me as well. And thanks for mentioning me on the Math skills – not sure if I still have it in me. And TBH you are doing a better job in Math with all the awesome drama counts ❤️. And apologies as I am yet to read the post in detail. I will do so once I am at home in Jan and will definitely get back to you with my comments if any. You take care and Merry Christmas and a Happy Peaceful and Blessed New Year ahead 👍💐🌟🧿.
@Princess.Jasmine – Oh thank you so much for checking out my post during your JCW tour!!!!
YAY for TKEM!!! I am so happy you also see the specialness in TKEM as well ❤️❤️❤️
I am sure your Math Skills are still very much there! Might be rusty, but they are there! The Drama count just kinda happened 🤭 Not sure how, but it did 🧐
No need to apologize! Enjoy your travels!!!!
Many thanks for your kind sentiments for Xmas and the upcoming New Year. May yours be peaceful and beautiful as well ❤️
JJ – Wow, you went crazy watching so many dramas this year! And really getting into the cdrama scene, I see!
Of course, I can’t complain about your #1 pick, which was fabulous… I’m just glad you were able to see past the violent bits.
I also join you in liking 19th Life more than I think many did; I enjoyed the story, I of course enjoyed how the amazing Shin Hye-sun portrayed her character, and I even liked the ending, for the most part.
Now let’s see how you top it all next year 😁
@Trent – I sure did, didnt I? Not sure what switch flipped but it was a mission this year it seems! And yes, fell right into Cdramas without looking back! Some really good ones out there and its been fun when there is a Kdrama lull to pick up a full dropped episode Cdrama.
Thanks for leading the way on Moving! What a ride!!!
Oh really?!?! You liked 19th Life, too?!!! YAY!!! Shin Hye Sun is pretty special isnt she. I am excited to rewatch that one. I even tried to go find the webtoon online to see how they ended theirs. But I met a paywall and I stalled 😳
LOL! I think this year was a one off! But who knows? I need to go back to the previous years to see what my yearly average is. But, not a fair comparison. And this year was quite busy in comparison to the other years. So hmmmmm.
JJ!! An excellent post and you and Sean are indeed giving all of us a run for our money. Hit The Spot was also a standout for me. And hahaha yes, I did see what you did there with the Go Ahead reference and I loved it. TTEOTM was something, but I completely understand not finishing the last few eps!
@uyen – Thank you so much!!! And thank you for reading my post 🥰 I just kept writing and writing AND writing. So many good Dramas this year!!!
I am just being silly about the “competition”. Its never been about that. Its about finding good Dramas that move us, no? 🥰
We all want to know (well phl1rxd and I) want to know how you found Hit the Spot!!!
He he re: Go Ahead 🥰 Couldnt resist 🥰
Maybe one day Ill finish TTEOTM. Doubtful. But I might get there 🥰
Well, that’s a right lot of dramas! 😀 I don’t think I’ve ever watched that many in a year even when I was a drama noob and tended to watch almost anything I could get my hands on, lol. That said, there weren’t that many options back in the day either. I’m more of a serial dropper these days and as I don’t have anywhere near as much time for dramas as I used to, I’m pretty picky with my choices.
Yey, another Farscape fan! It’s is one of my all time fave shows, I was even part of the fandom. If my memory serves me right, Farscape fandom was actually the first ever I joined. Ah, that takes me back.
Parallel World was something a bit different. It somehow reminded me of Sand Sea (Tomb of the Sea) with it’s mysterious desert setting. Yup, Ni Ni was great as Liu Xi and I did like Bai Yu too.
Warm on a Cold Night is my favorite drama of 2023. It still gives me the warm fuzzies whenever I think about it. 😉
Xianxia isn’t generally my cup of tea but The Starry Love was fun. I also kinda enjoyed Lost You Forever too, though I did FF quite a bit towards the end. I’ve read the novel but it’s been so long that my memory is rather fuzzy on a lot of things, ha. I do remember how it ends though. As for My Journey to You – the ending sucked.
I tend to drop all the modern cdramas I try but I might give Meet Yourself a go at some point. Maybe I’ll stick with it, you never know.
@Timescout – Yes! Sure is isnt??? Maybe a little too much 😂 But really is there ever too many Dramas in one’s life?
I am still resisting being a serial dropper (ahem, Kate!) but who knows could happen one day!?! Doubtful though. I try to be a little more picky up front and I wont watch just anything. I will rewatch a Show or two before picking up a new Show. This just happened to be an intense year of drama watching for some reason. Especially Cdramas!
Parallel World – Ohhh a fellow Parallel Worlder ! I had been eyeing Sand Sea but never pressed play. Is it worth it? Or did I ruin myself with Ni Ni?
Warm on a Cold Night – Oh! It’s your favorite of the year! Doesnt it though do a good job with the warm fuzzies. Dont you think they had more stories to tell? Such as his tribe he came from. Maybe more of a Xfiles procedural type Show where they solve some more mysteries?! I plan to do a rewatch on this one for sure.
Oh you read the novel for Lost You Forever? The translation or original text. Please dont tell me the ending. Im crossing fingers and toes on this one!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 – Hysterical “As for My Journey to You – the ending sucked”. Didnt it? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 It was great until then.
Meet Yourself is worth a look as its easy breezy laidback story. Plus since you are a serial dropper you can exit stage left quickly if necessary. BUT be warned, 1st episode is a doozy and NOT the tone of the rest of the Show. Be prepared. I wasnt, but it was worth it 🙂
Thanks for reading my post and leaving a comment, too 🙂
Sand Sea has a similar vibe to Parallel World but the storylines aren’t similar per se. E.g there is no central OTP, unless you count Leo Wu’s Li Cu and Qin Hao’s Wu Xie. They do make up a grumpy mentee/mentor pair but I would’t call that romantic. 😂 There is a side character romantic pairing though, pretty low burn but kinda interesting in their own way, considering who they are. Sand Sea is one of the better Grave Robbers’ Chronicles/ The Lost Tomb adaptations with a great cast. I really liked it but your mileage may vary. 🙂
I wouldn’t actually mind a S2 of Warm on a Cold Night, provided the cast stays the same. As you said, there is still more story to tell. Re-watch is on my plans as well. Maybe during the new year weekend as I have a feeling I’m going to need some warm fuzzies after next week’s workload.
I read a translated version of the Lost You Forever novel @koalasplayground.com. – it’s her translation.
Besides My Journey to You there’s now another cdrama with an ending that rather sucks. Another drop for me, as I’m bit over half way through and I lost even the remaining interest I still had in it. Why can’t we have nice things? *is grumpy*
We’ll see how it goes with Meet Yourself once I dive in. It sounds like something I might enjoy.
@Timescout –
I added Sand Sea to my watchlist!!! Thank you so much. I had been eyeing the Grave Robbers Chronicles but didnt know where to start!!! So thank you for picking for me 🙂 I dont always need an OTP. A good bromance always works or a grumpy mentee/mentor will work as well!!!
I am so glad I am not alone about wanting a Season 2 of Warm on a Cold Night. Yes! It’s a perfect Warm Fuzzy Show.
Thank you for sharing the translation of Lost You Forever.
What Cdrama with the terrible ending? Same one that you made it half way through? Sorry did I miss something???
Hope you LOVE Meet Yourself? I sure did 🙂
I’d actually start Grave Robbers’ Chronicles with The Mystic Nine as that’s a prequel to all the other dramas on the series and would give you bit of background for the “Nine Gates”, as in the nine families in Sand Sea. I wouldn’t say that Mystic Nine is a great drama but it was hella entertaining for the most part. 😄 And veeery easy on the eyes (ah, Fo Ye and his trusty sidekicks). There are couple of posts @ my blog, in case you are interested.
As for the drama that didn’t end pretty. Yes, it’s the same one I watched about half of and decided to quit once I read how the last 10 or so episodes went. I’m not sure I should name it… spoilers, you see.
@Timescout – Ohhhh thank you so much for laying out my next watch schedule!!!! I am trying to derail myself intentionally from A Journey to Love so I dont rush right through to the end. I am being very unsuccessful at stalling my A Journey to Love watch!
I’ll definitely go look at your posts. Thank you 🙂
I am rarely adverse to spoilers!!! So you can tell me the name and hide it in a spoiler tag if you want 🙂
Timecout – thanks for that info on the Lost You Forever Novel. I am going to read it.
@Timescout – I totally forgot to comment on your being part of the Farscape Fandom!!! ME, TOO!!! I even sent a little something to get Farscape to stay on TV or get the movie made. I cant remember what it was for, but I did send some to the Fandom! Never sure what happened, but man that was awful when the canceled Farscape. Brings me back, too 🙂
Jen, thank you for this lovely EOY post, what a fun read! 🥰
We don’t overlap all that much in the shows we we both love, which made it even more enjoyable when we do ❤️ TTEOTM was epic and watching it together made it even more special. Tantai Jin is a character that lives rent free in my head and I am enjoying the show just as much in my current rewatch .
I was happy I managed to talk you into Lost Romance, such a silly, fun show with amazing leads 😍 (yes people, do FF the villain scenes lol)
Hold My Hand At Twilight was also one of my highlights this year, so easily missed, such a special little gem.
I can’t believe you would bring up the music from Meet Yourself. 😂 Am patting myself on the back for not clicking that YT link. I was ready to murder someone by the end of the show if I had to hear that song again for the 1000th time 🤣
I‘ll stop here lest page decides to eat my comment.
edited to add: I will of course continue to drop shows at a whim because I am cold-hearted and jaded and simply to keep the space time continuum from imploding since you NEVER. DROP. ANY. SHOW. 🤣
@CanICallYouKate – 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 “simply to keep the space time continuum from imploding” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So True 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Woah, JJ, that’s a lot of shows – and a lot of addition!! I have seen none of them except the cdramas, and funnily enough, of the ones I haven’t seen on your list, it’s a cdrama that’s piqued my interest most – Parallel World, I do like Ni Ni and can see on your screenshots she looks stunning in this!!
The Starry Love sisters were so refreshing. Resilient and kind and thoughtful to one another! Hooray!!
Till the End of the Moon – the novel ending is very lovely and I don’t understand why the drama didn’t complete it in the same way. Still loved it, though!
One of the reasons I was absorbed by My Journey to You was its originality in setting / world building. And funnily enough, I was thinking the other day that the drama it relates to best (to me anyway) is your opener, Alchemy of Souls! To me, they both excelled at creating interesting, unique worlds 😍
Anyway, I love that you’re still obsessed by the kdrama whose title I never ever remember and always have to look up and the initialism doesn’t stick either… Ah, thank goodness Google remembers I always forget and I literally just have to type Monarch – lo! The King: Eternal Monarch. Yes, I’m glad you’ve rewatched it this year 😊 It’s always nice to have a favourite rewatch. Mine is Buffy. It’s like a comfort blanket!
I’m still wanting to rewatch Love Like the Galaxy too. Do you think kfangurl would host a group watch in 2024? I feel like it’s a show I want to discuss in minutiae!!
@Ele – Right!!!! Too much math for me 😂
We had so many samesies. I was so excited to share that tidbit, but had to wait for my post because I didnt want to spoil the surprise!
Parallel World is so worth it! Run to it because Ni Ni is just that amazing from the opening scene!
Yes! I so agree about the Starry Love sisters and I was so expecting the SPOILER ALERT typical trope of good twin and bad twin and they did with a twist. SPOILER END Loved it. And that FL was so fantastic. I meant to look her up in other Shows and forgot. Honestly, the OST and the FL kept me hooked. But, I will say kudos to the ML for playing three characters which I think he did very well. And that was HIS voice. So deep! I couldnt believe it and searched him out in interviews. And sure enough he has that deep timbre to his voice. Amazing.
I love what you said about the sisters “resilient AND kind AND thought to ONE another” ❤️
Til the End of the Moon – I may not ever go back to Moon because of the ending. I read from a fan on MDL it’s all about the rules and regulations Cdramas have with Main characters. He did too many bad things, so he had to pay for his crimes 😭 Dont quote me. I read something to that effect…
Ohhh Eli, I love that tying Alchemy of Souls and My Journey to You together for their similarities for being unique and interesting!!! I agree with you 🙂 Gosh I still love Alchemy so much I have not ventured a rewatch, yet. I think it’s coming soon though.
TOTALLY Obsessed with TKEM. Again, it’s the OST 😉 For me, it was my 2nd KDrama and I loved it. I hear and understand everyone’s criticisms but I just dont care. It worked for me and it still does. I actually did TWO rewatches of TKEM this year as palette cleansers when I was in a drama lull. PLUS the villain is one of the best ever I have seen in Dramaland. He just gets it. He is a fabulous actor. He was also in Liar and his Lover playing a hip young acting music CEO. I about fell over when he came out with a baseball hat on backwards. WHAT IS THIS??!!!! Fabulous acting.
Ohhhh BUFFY! YES!!! Who doesnt love Buffy? What a Show. What a very special Show. Ohhhh, can you do a Jane Austen tie in to Buffy per chance???? 🥰
EXCELLENT IDEA! There had been a rumor that the uncut version of LLTG was coming out in 2024, then that got scrapped I read some months ago 😭😭😭
But maybe KFG would get back in the saddle with Group Watches with LLTG!!!! That swept most of us away I believe?! I know it did me. THAT OST is gorgeous.
Buffy in a Jane Austen style, you say…. OOOHHHH!! I may be tempted 😀
@Ele – Really consider it please! We have several Buffy fans around these parts 😊
Don’t tell anyone, Ele, but I was actually thinking about a BtVS / K-drama mashup for Halloween this year But it obv didn’t get done beyond a few little scenes. There’s a ton of Buffy fanfic out there and I’d not be surprised if a JA angle has been considered already. But I’m sure yours would be better 😊
@j3ffc – Ohhh I think I remember you talking about that mashup!!! There is always next year! OR next post from you 🙂
Sounds AMAZING @j3ffc!!! I’d watch for definite!!
So… Buffy – Elizabeth Bennett (obvs!)
Angel-ous – Mr Darcy (how evil would Mr Darcey-vamp-elous go?!! OOH…)
Spike – Mr Wickham (totally bad!)
Willow – Jane Bennett (this would make the “evil” arc totally wow!!)
Giles – Mr Bennett (the eye-rolls he could enjoy!)
Xander – Lydia Bennett (based on getting into compromising situations with dubious predators 😆)
Cordelia – Caroline Bingley (relishing the bitch-fest)
Dawn – Georgiana Darcy (always requiring saving 🙄)
Faith – Lady Catherine de Bourgh (lawks, she’d rock that character 😀)
Wesley – Mr Collins (equally genius! Oh, that’s made me laugh!)
Anya – Mary Bennett (ah, literal to the extreme!)
Joyce – Mrs Bennett (we always wanted Joyce and Giles to be a couple, right? Just me?! Don’t you remember the candy episode??!! 😅)
Tara – Charlotte Lucas (who can shock Meryton by marrying Jane… Oh, I may need to consider the Bingley guy…)
Oz – Mr Bingley (yep, werewolf!! The side-burns give it away… Jane could never marry such a man – or, well, a man)
Drusilla – Kitty Bennett (she’s unhinged! Hooray! She could marry Oz’s Mr Bingley instead of Willow’s Jane. That could totally work!! Vamp-werewolf babies)
Shall I write it?! Yes? 😀😅😆😍🥰🙄
I am soooo excited for this! You have absolutely nailed the characters (while also reminding me about how rich the Buffyverse was with great characters) while making me wish that Miss Austen had written more books….
Unfortunately, my project is still stuck in development hell. And, in this case, it’s literal development Hell… 😂
Thank you for the super lively post JJ. I read the EOY post earlier but was swamped with work so I had to postpone posting a comment here. We have discussed a few of the titles that you mentioned here (Twinkling Watermelon, See You in My 19th Life and King the Land) but I was delighted to find quite a few titles that I am immediately interested in checking out:
Parallel World intrigues me quite a bit as I have not watched that genre combination for a while and your description of the lead characters is definitely exciting.
Alliance seems like something I would like quite a bit too as it seems like a female-centric revenge drama.
Hold My Hand at Twilight – This is a J-drama but I found myself being very interested in it just by reading the synopsis.
Also nice to see that there were other titles that I liked a lot here too like Good and Bad Mother, Moving, Hit the Spot (That’s a rare gem right there), Call It Love and Nothing But You (Just finished this yesterday and it was easily one of my favourite titles from this year).
The endless shout-outs to everyone was pleasing to see as well 😀
100 for the year is awesome!
@ABV – @ABV – You are welcome! Hope you enjoyed your time dashing through my post. Thank you for reading my 2023 EOY review for waaaay too many Shows, but I had fun anyways 🥰
Yes, we have talked about some the titles I listed here over in the Deep Dive Zone which has been most fun.
Sweet! I am very glad to know you found some new titles to check out. Hope they get the play button from you!
Parallel World – If you like Sci Fi, just remember this is Sci Fi lite with more focus on characters. My Sci Fi Buddy got a little frustrated with the lack of description or more in depth description and had to remind him that I said the Show was Sci Fi Lite. He ended up enjoying immensely 🙂
Alliance- Not sayin’ just watch and let it unfold 🙂
Hold My Hand at Twilight – Its only 10 episode. Easy to knock out 🙂 Its a little quirky gem 🙂
Perfect! We agree on some great Shows! Hit the Spot was simply amazing. We did discuss that one lots. Nothing But You is stellar and saw your comments in Spoiler Free. Must get to them !
Had lots of people to thank as I think that how I do my non planned Research 🥰
Thank you! Actually, it’s a bit more than 100 right now as I added a bunch more 🥴 after sending off my EOY to KFG ! We shall see soon what the total started number turns out to be soon!
Sure did. I had to go through it multiple times to ensure that I did not miss out on anything. The more the merrier in my book.
Yep. I somehow forgot to give Meet Yourself a mention. That was a show that I adored to bits. And that first episode was one of the best I have seen in terms of setting up a premise. It had a completely different tone to the rest of the series. But what it did was immediately get you to root for the lead character. And the impact of that one episode was so huge that I got an emotional every time Chen Nan Xing’s name was mentioned.
I don’t know if I can complete all of them before December 31 which I am treating as the deadline for my EOY post entries but I will try to watch Parallel World at least.
Sci-fi lite is good with me. I usually just like Sci-fi as being part of the premise and do not necessarily need exposition to explain the mechanics throughout the show. I want it to be more about the characters and from what I gather, that is how it is.
Will do. Alliance might be a step too far. Particularly if I try out My Dearest but I’ll see what I can do.
Will definitely consider trying it out when I want a change. But it’s rare that I find a J-drama that immediately piques my interests like this one did.
Very nice yes. Hit the Spot is a very rare type of series and I definitely appreciated the way it carried itself. Nothing But You, I’ve said quite a bit there already.
Getting all this help definitely can take care of the research bit of it. That’s one way to get rid of the process.
That’s a huge number regardless. My personal count for the year should be around that mark too (although I am covering a few more months for my EOY) excluding re-watches.
@ABV – Oh multiple times! That so awesome of you 🙂
Yes describe the opening of Meet Yourself soooo perfectly as well as how episode 1 continued to affect the Show!!! Thank you.
Parallel World is a must! And I read you started it elsewhere *SQUEAL*. Wasnt the opening 5 minutes of Ni Ni sooo intensely AWESOME!!!
Then you will be fine with Sci Fi lite!!!!
Keep Alliance on the back burner. It really is a must see when you are in the mood for a modern drama thats completely female driven, thankfully.
Honestly, I rarely watch Jdoramas! I did manage three First Love:Hatsukoi, Silent then Hold My Hand at Twilight. They all worked for me thankfully!!! But I havent watched a Jdorama for many months now.
We can discuss Hit the Spot in the Deep Dive a little more in depth. I was completely blown away by that Show. Soooo good! So well done. So many positives from that Show.
I didnt realize I was doing my own research but just by listening to other people 🤣🤣 I am grateful for everyone’s suggestions and opinions on Shows.
Well, you dont win or beat me if you are using more than the 2023 calendar year thank you very much 🤣🤣🤣 Teasing! Honestly, I would have not had any idea how many shows I watched until I counted them up just for some fun with Sean!
Looking forward to your EOY!!!
Thank you. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thanks. I will always have a soft spot for Meet Yourself. It is the kind of series that I could watch all day everyday. A real rare breed that ticks all the right boxes for me.
16 episodes into it now. I would have watched more today but had some unforeseen distractions. Ni Ni’s performance has been stellar and Ye Liu Xi is definitely a one of a kind character.
Absolutely.
Alliance is the type fo show that I would actually pick up quite naturally. If I had known about it, I would have probably checked it out already. But yeah, it’s unlikely that I will be able to watch it before next year.
All three of those J-drama titles suit my fancy too and i hope to watch them in the future. Well, J-drama tend to be low key when compared to C-drama and K-drama so it’s understandable.
Sure! I am pretty happy to see that quite a few people here watched Hit the Spot and appreciated it. I actually checked it out immediately after I found out about it and definitely thought it was a great watch.
It definitely helps with the research for sure. And talking to people makes things easier. You can just directly ask them what you want to know.
😅😅Well, I plan to finish 3 more shows before the end of the year but as it stands, I completed 105 titles in this calendar year excluding rewatches. It’s always fun to have these stats on hand. Just to compare and play around with.
Thank you. 🙂
@ABV – WOW!!! 16 episodes already WITH distractions?! Amazing. Love it. Isnt it just AWESOME!!!
Ni Ni ROCKS! Love her. I want to say more, but I wont. Ye Liu Xi is just as amazing as Ni Ni if that makes sense. Like I said, she is now one of my top favorite Sci Fi Characters ever.
Well, as long as you get to Alliance even if its next year 🙂
Ill explain in Patreon about me and Jdoramas 🙂 But these were gems for me for certain 🙂
Hit the Spot is just so impressive. So well done.
Only 3 more Shows??? 😉
WOW!!! 105 Titles??
YOU WIN!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
p.s. teasing – I have more after I wrote my post so we will see where I end up 🙂
So far, it has been awesome. I wanted to make significant headway but I’ll take what I managed.
It sort of does. I just hope the show and Ni Ni can keep it up till the end. It has been a long time since I have actually been invested in the mystery/plot of a show. I genuinely find the world very very intriguing.
I most definitely will watch Alliance.
Sure! Noted with thanks.
I agree. Not sure if there is any other series quite like Hit the Spot.
Yeah. If I pick My Dearest, that is 21 episodes and given how much drama and angst it is going to have, I doubt that I will be able to watch anything else immediately after that. Parallel World, I expect to finish by tomorrow. The other title is likely to be Fake It Till You Make It for which I am halfway through episode 5.
Yes. If I complete Parallel World first, it would be my 150th completion overall.
Thanks. We can maybe check out the episode count and day count too 😅🙂
We will. Let us resist this during the new year. 😊
@ABV – YAY!!! A 16 episode binge is definitely significant headway in my book!
I promise you Ni Ni stays consistent until the end. As does Bai Yu. No need to worry. Yes!!! So excited this is working for you 🙂
Yay about Alliance! Let us know your thoughts when you get to it!
Hit the Spot is quite special.
Good to wait on My Dearest.
Ohhh let me know in the Deep Dive about Fake it Til you Make it. I had a very interesting watch with that one!
Congrats on 150 Shows!! Amazing.
Oh day count! Never thought about that!
Yes 2024 will be free of stats. At least for me they will be 🙂
Yeah. Thanks. The next day however, I actually continued with Fake It Till You Make It and just completed the series yesterday. Now to finish up Parallel World. 22 episodes in so hopefully, I can finish it today.
That’s reassuring to know. Things are getting more and more serious plot wise. (Parallel World)
Will do. (Alliance)
My Dearest is next on my plan at least.
Same. Fake It Till You Make It was not easy to watch early on but I do have appreciation for it. I will share my thoughts after I complete my binge plans for this week.
Thanks. Ended up being Fake It Till You Make It.
Yeah, I have lists on multiple sites to keep track of that. It’s just a fun indicator is all.
😂😂
An outstanding viewing performance, ABV 😊😊😊
@Sean Thank you very much.
What!??! 100 shows, no drop? JJ, you surely must be champion of the year???
My dear, thanks for being this constant source of positivity, and joy, and unicorns! I wish you that 2024 bri go you even more opportunities for glitter and love! ❤
@Natalia – Nope. Not an official drop, yet!!! Some pauses though for sure 🙂 Awww, thanks 🥰 LOL! Wasnt trying to win anything just trying to finish one Show and on to the next!. Thank you for reading my post even though I didnt drop one show 😂
Awww, Natalia, thats so very kind of you. Many thank yous to you for your kind words for 2024 !!!❤️❤️❤️
May you have a beautiful 2024 with ZERO dropped Shows thats filled with lots of Laughter and Joy !
🦄❤️🦄❤️🦄❤️🦄
Wow, JJ, lots of similar vibes on the K and J shows this year (you’ll see!). You post makes me more likely to watch Parallel World, which I think you’ve recommended before. Even the stills look cool. Thanks for sharing and may 2024 be filled with rainbows and unicorns for you!
@j3ffc – As I said before and I’ll say again, happily, CANT WAIT for your post. Excited to see our crossovers!!!
YES!!! Start Parallel World. Its just so awesome and Ni Ni totally steals the Show.
Awww, thanks, j3ffc 🦄🌈
May you have lots of Joy in your and as always more drama watching in 2024 🦄
This is truly fabulous, JJ. I enjoyed your post from beginning to end. I started laughing when you raised TKEM. Thank you for the endless shout outs, I now need to live under a rock 😂🤣😂
The joy you bring regarding your comments on dramas always makes me stop and think. Pleading with me to restart a show or watch one that I wouldn’t normally view does have quite a bit of weight. However, it will never be TKEM 😁
I’m glad TAIFU is in our lives, even though I dropped one of his shows recently. It wasn’t him, just the story. And they insist on dubbing him – the actor who has the most amazing voice!
I loved the comparison of Ni Ni with Claudia Black. In fact, those two together in a show would be really something. Ni Ni was superb in Parallel World. I make a comment about in my post. Your summation of Bai Yu’s performance is awesome. I can’t imagine anyone else being opposite Ni Ni in this story.
We are on the same page too, re Be Melodramatic.
You will be pleasantly surprised re My Dearest 🎁 Those kids in The Good Bad Mother were amazing, as was everyone else in that show.
Your expose on CDramas was a real treat. I think you should do this every year. The female leads in Alliance were fantastic and I don’t think I have seen such a collaboration before. Anyway, scumbagosaurus got what he deserved 😂🤣😂
As for the episode count, I’m obviously going to have to do one now 😉
Congratulations on such an awesome viewing year and may we continue to enjoy our watch next year. January looks amazing for Kdramas, at least 12 that I’m tempted to look at.
A very Merry Christmas to you 🎅🎄🧑🎄
@seankfletcher – Awwwww, thank you Mr. Fletcher aka Sean aka Drama Time Wizard 🥰 But butter ing me up still wont change the competition and MY winning 🤣🤣🤣🤣
TKEM for the WIN!
Thank YOU for enriching my Drama watching this year! As I wrote up my post I kept thinking well, I watched this one bc of Sean, oh and that one and that one and THAT one, sooooo I had to give credit where credit is due ! No rocking hiding for you!!!
Music to my ears Mr Fletcher that you stop and think to consider going back to some of the Dramas you have abandoned on a whim 😂 You must go back and finish A Journey to You!! Or at least get back to right before the end where it all fails apart. I need you to see one scene ! So getting go.
None to worry, TKEM isnt going anywhere. Nor. Am. I. 😇
TAIFU!!! All thanks to phl1rxd!!! I have learned a bit more of the why’s of dubbing and have calmed down a bit about it after KFG amazing voice note on the subject, but it’s still a bit shocking when an actor has an amazing voice and they dont get to use it. Sigh.
OMO!!! Wouldn’t that be AHMAZING to have Ni Ni and Claudia Black in a Sci Fi Show together. Omo! I can see it now. *SQUEAL* Just the thought of that possibility is so awesome.
Superb is the perfect word for Ni Ni in Parallel World.
No, nobody else would fit with Ni Ni in that role except Bai Yu. Two extremely professional and extremely dedicated to their craft actors. I ❤️ them.
YAY!!!!! YAY!!!!! I am not alone about Be Melo. No offense Be Melo lovers. Really. Promise. No offense ❤️
Fingers crossed for My Dearest! I’ll report back.
I actually want to rewatch Good Bad Mother it was just that good. Such a special with as you noted great performances from everyone!!!
WOW! Really? Thanks for the compliment, Sean. I really do love Cdramas and they need their time in the Sun! If KFG, lets us, Ill be there with bells on 🦄
I couldnt love Alliance more. Well, I could if they had given us more episodes. Or a Part 2. So much more story to tell. I really do thank you for talking about this one ❤️ Bleh scumbagosarus!
I thought you already had an episode count bc you passed your 10,000th episode? Thats why I did mine for the year. Im hot on your heels!!!! Hopefully 😂
Thank you so much for reading my post and making it to the end. So excited to read yours! Thank you!!! A very Merry Xmas to you as well 🌲🎄
Oh, BTW, We will look forward to your January update then in the Watercooler ❤️
@JJ – I can’t thank you enough for helping me with my own enthusiasm for dramas this year, because I did watch a lot of other non Asian shows too. In fact, some really good ones and you helped me get back on track 😉
I did pas my 15,000 episode this year. So, my overall tally is 15,362. However, every now and then (referencing the new Beatles song), I still come across a show I haven’t recorded or even updated. I’m not sure how that happens 🤷♂️
I see Kurt Russell and his son want to do a remake of the Last Starfighter. Perhaps we can discuss that elsewhere 😊
Anyway, happy viewing, and I’m finally home for Christmas 🎅
@seankfletcher – GASP! 🫣 Whats this ? 🤨 You ventured away from Dramaland? 🤯 How could you! 😳
WHEW. Relieved you found your way back to us though 🥰 Who else do I have to talk to about TKEM???? ❤️❤️❤️
I am glad I unknowingly got you back in the right saddle where you belong with your peeps ❤️❤️❤️
Congrats on over 15,000 episodes. Amazing! Always loves a good Beatles fan ❤️ Blackbird singing…..
Its happens because you WAY TOO MANY Shows 🤣🤣🤣 Teasing!!! There is never enough Shows!
WHAT? Really? Oh I am not sure thats a great idea Last Starfighter is a classic and just perfect. To bring it to present day, I dont know about that…hmmmm. Yes, we can discuss elsewhere 🙂
Merry Merry Merry to you and yours 🌲🎄🌲🎄🌲🎄
Yes Sean – it is a travesty to dub Jeremy Tsui. It goes against the laws of nature.
100 dramas! Amazing and inspiring! And great choices for your top picks!😀
@enapeters – Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
JJ – i had such a big smile on my face as i read this. love that it is totally YOU. even though i can never catch up to the no of shows you watch, i love that we are both puppies unicorn rainbow watchers but we both loved Moving!!
MC – Thank you for reading my post!!!! And I love that it made you smile 🥰 You always manage to watch great Shows, MC and its really not a competition(unless its Sean 🤣)!!! And as long as you are chit chatting away with us in the Deep Dive and you always do, Im all good. 🥰

Puppies Unicorn Rainbow Watcher Club Forever 🐶🦄🌈 🥰🥰
Wow JJ – I cannot get over the sheer number of drams that you watched this year. I don’t think I ever accomplished those kinds of drama completions, even in my best years of drama watching. Whew! 🤯
Hit the Spot – I said something like “KDramas can certainly cover all kinds of subjects and make it very human, or something like that”. Yes, KDrama can take what is basically P and make you care for all the characters. This is a real skill. This drama came out of nowhere, didn’t it? Warning to all future watchers – Watch this alone where no children can walk in and see it. I still wonder how Uyen found this. A brave KDrama for sure and one that touched on real life issues that no one talks about.
Chatting CDrama with you JJ is a treat! Sean always finds great CDramas. I so enjoyed Starry Love! Let’s not forget our own Liu Yining and his rendition of “Speak With You” (SUPER song) which was the driving force behind my fangurl spazz rant over at Patreon and another one of the reasons that I loved this drama.
Then to Warm on a Cold Night! Again, another great OST featuring Liu Yining singing “Dawn and Dusk”. Yes JJ, it was adorbs!
And here is another song by Liu Yuning – “The World I Love” from the OST of Till the End of the Moon. Poor, poor Tantai Jin!!!! 😥😪😥😪 Luo Yun Xi owned this show and he was fierce throughout.
I am right with you JJ, on Lost You Forever. Despite the netizen’s drama chatter, I was so equally fascinated and repelled by Tan Jianci’s character, that I simply could NOT stop watching. We had fun with this!! I do not know if I can keep up with you but holler when you re-watch in 2024 (like right before S2 is released?
Ahh – My Journey to You! Yes, such fantastic chatter from the WHOLE crew over at Patreon. So much fun!
Yes JJ, Sean is The Man.
Yugure ni, Te wo Tsunagu – yes, I did see it.
I so enjoyed everyone’s deep involvement with Someday or One Day and the subsequent movie even though sadly I never got it (I got so lost and could not get back lol). All the chatter was a darn good read.
Lost Romance is in the queue LOL!
Super EOY Review JJ! I read it slowly, so as to savor the goodness. You really had a well-rounded representation of countries here. Great Job!!
@phl1rxd – Thank you so much for my way too many words post. I just kept going and going and going AND going. I couldnt stop this year for some reason!!! My numbers blew me away as well. I think I had a little too much extra time on my hands this year 🫣
Ohhhh it was YOU who said Kdramas can do it all with Hit the Spot. Yes! How did Uyen find that one?!!! Must know 🦄
OMO!!! Its all coming back to me now our conversations last year about Liu Yuning songs which led me to all those dramas. THANK YOU!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
My Journey to You – that was Natalia driving those conversations and she did a GREAT job. 🥰
Yes, I will let you know when I do the rewatch on Moon right before S2!!!
Kate will be thrilled Lost Romance made it to your queue!!! Fingers crossed you like it as much she did 🥰
