My friends!
It’s that time of year again — when we pause, look back on our 2025 drama adventures, and realize… wow, we really did have a lot of feelings™. 😂
Welcome to this year’s End-of-Year Patreon Awards. What started years ago as a casual suggestion in our chat corner has grown into one of the warmest things we do together as a community. 🥲
Each post is written by a member of our Patreon community, sharing their drama year in their own voice — with heart, humor, honesty, and plenty of feels.
If you’ve missed earlier entries, you can find them here: Natalia, Kumari, Ele.
Today, MC is sharing her drama year — and it’s especially impressive given how full her schedule has been this year.
One thing I’ve realized is that MC and I have very similar drama sensibilities, except that she’s also often drawn to thrillers (something I venture into less often 😁). So if your taste tends to overlap with mine, there’s a good chance you’ll find plenty here to resonate with.
If you like MC’s style and want to know what she thought about dramas last year, you can check out her post here!
And if you’re curious about something a little different, MC also wrote about her trip to Korea — a trip she took while still recovering from a broken toe, no less! 😱 You can read that here.
I hope you guys enjoy!
~ KFG ❤️
Hi!
I’m MC and I’ve been doing this for a couple of years.
Before I start, I want to say that I’m so grateful to KFG for always allowing us a space here to write aka mess up / lower the standards on her blog!
Fun facts about me:
- I started watching Kdramas in 2013 (introduced to a family weekender drama – those 100 episode shows with ALL of the tropes – Amnesia! Poor girl rich boy! Disapproving parents! Slaps! White truck of doom!) by my mother-in-law – we still discuss dramas to this day!) But I (almost exclusively) watched Asian dramas from 2017 or so, sparked off by Descendants of the Sun. How has it been ~8 years!
- I remember stumbling across The Fangirl Verdict early on in my drama watching journey and kept trying to remember the name of the blog (and forgetting it). Finally, I bookmarked it and de-lurked on KFG’s A Love So Beautiful review and the rest, they say, is history….
- There are basically 2 sides to me, the MC that loves romance and slice of life dramas… but occasionally Thriller MC emerges and loves all the thrillers, especially crime dramas.
- My list of dramas that I’d like to watch (what I call my good intentions list) is basically never ending… I am not a time and space bender like ABV, Sean, Gloria so I definitely cannot watch as many shows as them. But I did manage to finish a good 45 shows including a few non-Asian dramas (see the list of shows right at the end of this post, if you’re curious). And I do watch a mix of shows from 2025 and from years before.
Ok, that’s a lot about me… now let’s get to the awards!
1. Best Drama
So, this one took me by surprise.
I had watched When Life Gives You Tangerines earlier this year and absolutely loved it (and sobbed my heart out) – the sheer epic scale of the show, yet the show never loses focus on the individuals and their growth and pain in our story world.
Plus, it spoke so much to me personally about relating to my parents and in laws, and about being a parent too. It was all set to be my one and only Drama of the Year, ranked with My Mister (which is very high praise from me, as I consider My Mister to be one of the best TV shows I have ever watched).
But then. You guys. KFG kept raving about You And Everything Else. I had good intentions to get to it – and when I did, I was absolutely blown away by how thoughtfully written it was, with such careful characterisation and display of each character’s inner world and emotions.
It was honestly a much smaller story world than Tangerines but it went so deep.
Kudos to the writing, directing and acting team, who were brave enough to bring this show of messy relationships and complex emotions to life.
So…. I’m going to cheat by awarding Best Drama to both When Life Gives You Tangerines and You And Everything Else – they are both wonderful and I can’t choose!

Other contenders:
2. Best Hidden Gem
Time to gush over Way Back Love which I must thank KFG for. If she hadn’t recommended this show, I would have missed out and what a pity that would have been.
I had been in a drama slump (I was watching documentaries, reality tv, American dramas which I hardly do nowadays – that shows how bad a slump I was in) but this show singlehandedly brought me back to dramaland again.
I thought “ok just 6 episodes let’s give it a shot” and by end of ep 1 I was hooked and eventually gave my heart to it.
This little show packed such an emotional punch and delved into what it means to live and love amidst death, guilt and regret. So good that I wish I could go back in time and rewatch it for the first time.
Other contenders:
- Oh My Ghost Clients/ Pro Bono (granted Pro Bono is still airing but it vibes very similarly to Oh My Ghost Clients) – for being so heartwarming and poignant (and thought provoking) with its cases of the week
- Always Home, which is a sweet coming of age C-drama that isn’t afraid to go into some difficult topics
- Catsody War (a 1-hr special) which touches on deeper topics than just a separation (and it reunites the Splash Splash Love co-stars Kim Seul Gi (!!!) and Yoon Doo Joon!)
3. Best OTP
I’m going to kind of cheat by awarding Best OTP to different kinds of OTPs:
Here’s to Gwan Sik and Ae Sun (When Life Gives You Tangerines), for showing me how to love and stay committed through different seasons of life, with its joys and pains. Also, shoutout to Gwan Sik, for a lifetime of quiet dedication and love to his one and only Ae Sun and his family (especially in a patriarchal time…)
But who could forget the adorable and adorkable Takimasa and Natsumi (A Calm Sea And Beautiful Days With You) – I basically had a huge grin watching them fall in love with each other. This is contract marriage done right!

Other contenders:
- For cracky, crackly, electrifying couples – Love Scout and When The Phone Rings’s couples were so good that I forgot to breathe and I feel my screen about to burn up. Unfortunately, both became a bit too sweet and mellow and the crack subsided towards the end.
- For saccharine sweet couples, I also want to talk about When I Fly Towards You – Rang Rang and his Su Zai Zai were so darn stinkin cute (and I can’t believe I took so long to watch this show!)
4. Best Actor
I honestly think the actresses were stronger this year. But I’m still awarding this one to Seo Kang Jun, who blew me away in Undercover High School and Are You Human Too.

Other contenders:
- Park Bo Gum and Park Hae Joon (When Life Gives You Tangerines)
- Yoo Yeon Seok (When The Phone Rings)
- Ji Chang Wook (The Manipulated, especially in the early few episodes)
- Han Seok Kyu (Doubt)
5. Best Actress
Again, this was a last-minute switcheroo. Park Bo Young (Our Unwritten Seoul) had it in the bag, for playing both Mi Ji and Mi Rae (and playing Mi Ji pretending to be Mi Rae and Mi Rae pretending to be Mi Ji) – and in doing all 4 personas, bring out their nuances so well that I didn’t need their outfits/ hairstyles to differentiate them.
But then. You And Everything Else came along. Both Kim Go Eun and Park Ji Hyun did an incredible job – but I’m giving this one to Park Ji Hyun, who bravely took on the challenge of portraying the difficult-to-love Sang Yeon with all of her wounds and pain and made her so very human.
Other contenders:
- Kim Go Eun (You and Everything Else, Yumi’s Cells 1 and 2 – this year was my Kim Go Eun year and I’m not mad about it. I wanted to squeeze in The Price of Confession but alas time did not permit. But I still intend to get to it, hopefully in 2026!)
- Park Bo Young (Our Unwritten Seoul)
- IU and Moon So Ri (When Life Gives You Tangerines)
6. Best New Actor/ Actress
There’s no doubt about this (pun pun) – it has to be Chae Won Bin (Doubt). She played Jang Ha Bin to perfection – sneering, sulky, calculative and manipulative, all under a façade that constantly kept me wondering if she was evil.
7. Best Villain
Again I’m going to cheat by awarding this to 2 villains – Kim Shin Rok’s Chairwoman Seo Myeong Ju (Undercover High School) and Go Hyun Jung’s Jung Yi Shin (Queen Mantis). Both were creepy and unhinged (in the best way).

8. Best OST
This isn’t a drama but you just HAVE to give it to the show that swept the entire globe, right? Here’s to Kpop Demon Hunters – the IT show for 2025, where its fictional bands ruled the charts and the entire world danced and sang to it.
Fun fact – my favourite song from the soundtrack isn’t Golden but How It’s Done, Your Idol and Soda Pop (yes I like the Saja Boys…) but my favourite lyric has to be “fit check for my napalm era”. So witty!
Other contenders:
- Full OSTs: Yumi’s Cells, You And Everything Else, Our Unwritten Seoul, Way Back Love
- Specific songs: Test Me – Paul Blanco (Love Scout), All I Want Is You – Seungmin (Would You Marry Me), 春满 and 故城雪 (The Prisoner of Beauty)
9. Show With The Funniest Scenes
Undercover High School – while I didn’t love it all the way, I still think Episode 4 has some of the most epic episodes ever – I laughed so hard my husband came out to check on me. That dancing montage (and the song!) and the ending of the episode!! I still grin when I think of it.
Here are the links for your enjoyment:
- A clip of them dancing for his recruitment (with spoilers, watch only if you’ve already watched this show)
- Then watch the BTS of them dancing and singing – it’s hilarious (and it’s the full song!)
- The scene where she does a house visit (with spoilers, watch only if you’ve already watched this show)
10. Favourite Character
There were many great characters in the year but I wanted to give a special shoutout to Our Unwritten Seoul’s Bun Hong (Ho Su’s mother). If you know the story you’d know what a wonderful mom she was – dedication and commitment despite the hardships.
11. Razzie
If you’ve been around the blog long enough and read the reviews (or Patreon notes), you would have known it was Good Boy. I’m sorry – I wanted to love it but the all the money was spent producing ever more exciting action scenes that seemed to stretch FOR EVER AND EVER…. And almost nothing went into writing.
What a shame and a waste of the cast. The best thing about Good Boy (for me) was Lee Sang Yi’s hot bespectacled, fencing hero.

Very nice post, MC. I realized this year that we have similar taste (I also love romance, but get in the mood for a thriller now and then). When I am considering watching an older drama, I often check the spreadsheet to see how you have rated it.
I have enjoyed our chats on Patreon and look forward to many more!
Hi there, Thriller MC! Once again, I have watched almost all of your shows – but almost none by Fluffy MC.
I still love you both though, and look forward to discussing dramas with you this year as well!
Here’s to a Happy 2026!
hahaha Natalia, i wasn’t surprised at all! i love chatting with you too. let’s hope i have enough drama time to watch c dramas too. may 2026 be wonderful for us both!
@MC – Apologies for the late response. You had a fantastic year. Thanks for sharing your EOY post. You and I have very similar tastes, I find. I haven’t watched three of your top dramas of the year: When Life Gives You Tangerines, You and Everything Else, and Way Back Love. I plan to watch the first two pretty soon; I just need the right mood.
I think we have discussed most of your other watches at some point on Patreon.
Another thing that I noticed was that you dropped Good Manager. Any particular reason for it? It was one of the most enjoyable watches for me in 2024.
I started watching Pro Bono yesterday. My only concern is if I will like the female lead and the Pro Bono team.
Have an amazing 2026. 😊
yes ABV we’ve had many great conversations about shows in 2025 – i look forward to more of them.
yes the best shows for me were really really good but definitely you need to be in the right mood for them.
ah Good Manager – i genuinely tried to watch it a few times but somehow the humour didn’t work for me. please love it extra for me!
pro bono – they are very idealistic which is a good foil to Kang Da Wit’s “the ends justify the means” sort of method. but i liked them still even though some people on reddit were frustrated with the team.
let’s hope 2026 gets better for us!
@MC – Same here.
That mood is actually difficult for me to get into, but I should watch both shows at some point this year.
Okay. Thanks for explaining. If the humour does not work, it’s definitely not an easy watch. I love it lots, so all is good.
I do hope that I come to like the team too. Otherwise, it might not be an easy watch. The female lead did not make a good first impression.
Indeed. 😊
So nice reading your EOY post! And learning more about your different personalities where thriller MC sometimes turns up. It IS nice with a change sometimes!
Some of your shows I watched as well and some I will put on the ever longer list ( obviously not Good Boy).Thank you for the fun clips from Undercover High School. It was partly hilarious!
I wish you a wonderful new drama year!
it is a nice change indeed sometimes! and yes, stay far away from Good Boy. it’s a bit like Typhoon Family where it’s just lose-lose-lose (or meaningless win). yes! UHS has a lot of hilarious moments.
have a wonderful drama year too!
great end of year review. I love that you have Seo Kang Jun as best actor, and generally lots of mentions of Undercover High. I loved that one.
hi jaco! UHS was very fun for sure. i think this is the best i’ve seen of Seo Kang Joon! glad we both enjoyed it!
@MC
You have done a wonderful job with this EOY entry, be proud of it! 😊
I am amazed that you’ve been watching kdramas for so long. I will confess that thrillers are my least favourite genre, although I did enjoy Nine Puzzles last year. I see we get along quite nicely especially with the slice-of-life shows.
I am glad that You and Everything Else touched you so much. Even though it was #3 of 5 on my list, all of them were so close. It’s kind of funny that your top 5 list basically mirrors mine, with just a slight change in order. Way Back Love was my first intro to Kim Min-ha; someday I want to watch Pachinko which I understand is quite good. It’s too bad Typhoon Family left such a bad taste in my mouth.
I laughed about your comments about saccharine sweet couples. As you can tell from my own choice, I have a definite sweet tooth for my OTP pairings and I agree both of the kdrama couples were very nice (it’s too bad When the Phone Rings had such a bizarre end).
I also laughed at your choice of best OST. True fact, I have most of the Huntr/x songs in my boy/girl band playlist and (funnily enough) I’m in full agreement about How It’s Done edging out Golden.
I will gladly accept your choice for favourite character. Most of the roles I’ve seen Kim Sun-young play have been so OTT and it seemed that was her niche character type. Colour me super surprised and wonderfully awed at the vulnerable but staunchly loyal mother role she played in OUS.
You’ve had a wonderful year of dramas and I’m so pleased to have had the chance to interact with you on a number of them in the Patreon community. I wish you the best in 2026!
yes Nathan i don’t tend to realise how long it’s been and then get amazed when i take time to think about it.
ive always loved a good detective crime story – from Agatha Christie books Brooklyn 99 etc etc. so once i got over my fears over thrillers i realised i rather enjoy them from time to time. but yes ill always like slice of life and romances – though my standards for romance shows are very high nowdays.
yes our tastes are very similar and just ordered differently! i hope you get to watch Pachinko sometime. i will definitely look out for Kim Min Ha.
ah When The Phone Rings – such intense chemistry, alas about that ending that shouldn’t be spoken of again. yay that we think alike for How It’s Done!
Kim Sun Yong is fabulous. i can’t remember where else i’ve seen her but she’s always done well.
may 2026 be wonderful for us!
Happy New Year, @MC!! I haven’t seen most of those dramas but tempted by your (and KFG) enthusiasm for You and Everything Else to try it. When Life Gives You Tangerines was very special – and I’m glad you’re watching Flower of Evil. Unlike you, I am a super wuss for crime / thriller type dramas but that one I hung onto because the OTP is SOOOOOOOO good. Interesting song choices from Prisoner of Beauty too – I am sorry to say, even having watched the drama twice, neither of those songs left any impression on me! I have a tendency to block background music especially when I hyper focus. I *may* have been hyper focussing on Liu Yuning when those songs were playing…
hey ele! i look forward to more otp goodness in FoE! thriller vibes and a great romance – that will make me a very happy camper! oh YAEE is wonderful but not the easiest to watch. but utterly absorbing!
HAHA yea i can understand why those songs flew by unnoticed since all your attention is on Liu Yunning! he did fab in TPoB. i need to watch more of his shows!
Ele, just a quick comment that I’m four shows into You and Everything Else and so far it’s been really good – thoughtful and affecting. Definitely worth a look.
yay j3ffc join us in the YAEE fan club! it truly is thoughtful and affecting.
Great choices, MC! Our tastes line up very well, including that I enjoy both romances and thrillers. Hope you enjoy Flower of Evil. The later episodes got a bit too makjang for my tastes but even that didn’t detract from how gripping and thought-provoking I found the story or how impressive the acting was.
hi enapeters! i’m glad our tastes line up well – if you have other great thriller romances to recommend send them my way!
i heard that FoE does get makjang so i hope ive adjusted my viewing lens enough for that. i look forward to more of it – it has near universal praise when i talk about it here and on patreon so that bodes well for me, hopefully…
Great post, MC! Of the shows you mention that I’ve watched, we are in agreement. I loved Seo Kang Joon in both of those dramas…hope to see more of him in the future. Kim Shin Rok was for sure a scary, unhinged villain. And Bun Song as mom of the year is so well-deserved. What a wonderful character!
hi Deb C! i too really enjoyed Seo Kang Joon. i saw him early on in Cheese in the Trap but i don’t remember much sadly. but i will look out for him in other shows!!
kim shin rok is so incredible. i loved her (and found her unrecognisable) in Beyond Evil and Reborn Rich too…
bun hong is one of the best mom characters! alongside yeo hye ran in WLGYT…
This is a great post, @MC! And I’m not saying that because we agree on about 90% of your show assessments, at least on the ones that I’ve seen. The corollary to this being, of course, I should watch the shows you’ve mentioned that I’ve not yet seen (Undercover High School was not on my radar but you sort of grabbed me with dance scene and funniest episode comments).
I also watch a lot of American TV and, while by and large I agree with your casual dismissal of it, there are exceptions. For anyone interested, I’d suggested Pluribus as an exceptionally fresh and beautifully realized SF show (although we’re looking at a year’s wait minimum for season 2).
Despite having to live life and do those things you gotta do, you have been able to wind down with a lot of quality TV. Thanks for sharing your drama world with us and best wishes for a great 2026.
hi j3ffc! if you do watch Undercover High School be prepared to turn off the logic and just enjoy the fun ride. the romance didn’t quite work for me but it worked for others so hope it does better for you.
oh i must say im so sorry i didn’t mean to dismiss and disparage non-asian shows or say that asian dramas are superior – ive loved many non asian shows (most recent of all being Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery).
i hope we have a wonderful 2026 ahead with great shows (be it asian or non asian)!
J3ffc, on Pluribus: this is the one thing that bugs me about western dramas. The fact that they don’t finish their stories! Pluribus is great, but I fear that it will fizzle or get silly as it proceeds…
What an amazing post @MC!
there are quite a few shows on here that I haven’t watched so looking forward to 2026 for them.
Bun Hong is the most deserving of that award. She was so moving as Ho Su’s mother and her friendship with MiRae’s mom helped her grow as well. A well written and well acted character.
I started Doubt but I haven’t been able to continue. The dark lighting( expected for the show n theme) is putting me off. I might give it a shot again this year.
will try to change settings andget to The Manipulated somehow. As a JCW fangirl I can’t postpone that any longer.
i had Goodboy in the Razzie list as well. What a waste of some good looking talent .
i liked Chief Kim so curious on why you dropped it.
I am currently watching Mobius and Pro Bono. Liking them so far.
hi kumari – Our Unwritten Seoul had really great characters and were so human in their struggle and triumphs. i really loved that show.
oh Doubt is definitely very dark. KFG complained about it too. but it’s a very solid psychological thriller.
oo as a JCW fangirl you would definitely appreciate The Manipulated but fair warning the first 2-3 episodes are very hard to watch, as he’s broken down utterly.
oo i really enjoyed Mobius – and Pro Bono is turning out to be sharp yet with so much heart. enjoy!
sorry i forgot to reply. i tried watching Chief Kim a few times but i think i wasn’t in the mood for its brand of humour. i did try! it just didn’t work for me. enjoy it for me!
@MC
Congratulations on yet another EOY post. I am simply amazed that you were able to watch so many 2025 dramas and lot of good ones at that. Thank god I didn’t attempt an EOY post as my 2025 drama count stands at mere 8. Even in that – many thanks to both you and KFG for the enthusiasm in Patreon initial episodes notes for both Undercover High School and Tempest that made me watch those 2025 dramas.
Of your awards, Seo Kang Joon is definitely deserving of The Best Actor Award. I was happy to find him this year. Looking forward to seeing more of his works slowly in the coming years.
Duly noted your good words on both You and Everything Else and Way Back Love. Also you are so right in that the actresses were stronger this year or for that matter in any year – I find K-actresses in general come in with an above average performance as the baseline even in a very average drama. Truly remarkable and I wish some of them would travel to SE Asia so that I can show my appreciation / support by attending their fan events.
Looks like you didn’t watch The Typhoon Family but that was my first exposure to Kim Min-Ha and she wins my Discovery of the Year Award 2025 – Female. I think I should watch Way Back Love sooner this year.
On the Villain awards – Kim Shin Rok was menacing in UHS (and then few months later I saw her in Tastefully Yours where she was so happy fun – must be a very good actress) and totally deserves that award. OMO – so brave of you to watch Queen Mantis and I will take your word for Go Hyun-Jung. I actually saw her performance for the first time as the amazing Lady Mishil in Queen Seondeok drama this year. She easily wins my Best Female Award 2025 for that drama. Such a unique character and in the hands of any other actress it would have looked uneven or maybe even crass. I really wish I could write more about both that drama and her character in that. There is another drama of her that I have been meaning to watch for sometime now – Sandglass. Maybe you can make a note of it as well.
I had Karma on my 2025 list but I opted out at the last minute. Will definitely watch Good News and let you know. The other common drama we seem to have enjoyed quite well is Romantics Anonymous. I am just happy that this drama was made and that Han Hyo Joo was the FL.
Now I will go and look for that OST you mentioned highly from PofB and also enjoy the UHS titbits.
Take care MC and Wish You a Wonderful New Year filled with lots of happiness and good health. And of course another amazing drama watching year as well.
P Jasmine – hope 2026 is wonderful for you too, you deserve all goodness! i hope you get to see more of your beloved actors/ groups!
i did watch a lot of shows but im likely to slow down in 2026 to focus on other things in life + work is pretty busy.
yes Seo Kang Joon was a revelation in UHS so much that i watched Are You Human Too for him (and Lee Jun Hyuk). and JCW was fantastic in the Manipulated, can’t wait for you to watch that.
oh yes you’ve talked about Queen Seondeok!! she must have been utterly fantastic because she was already great in Queen Mantis.
Kim Shin Rok is always so good! unrecognisable across multiple shows. i always look out for her.
yes Romantics Anonymous was good! Han Hyo Joo is another i’d watch in most shows.
take care too!
