Review: Siren’s Kiss

THE SHORT VERDICT:

At its best, Show offers a moody, intriguing setup, with flashes of tension and atmosphere that hint at something sharper and more cohesive underneath.

However, the overall execution feels uneven and under-thought-through, with character beats and plot developments that don’t always land with the weight or clarity they need, especially in the final stretch.

Not without its moments, but ultimately more stylish than substantive, and less satisfying, the closer you look.

Review: Marry My Husband

THE SHORT VERDICT:

When Show is at its best, the writing feels smart, thoughtful and inspired, and Show is cracky fun to watch. When Show isn’t at its best, however, the writing feels paint-by-numbers and pretty lazy, to be brutally honest.

The good news is that Show has more good moments than not-so-good ones, in my opinion, and overall, works out to be a solid ride.

Our leads are great, and this is absolutely a worthy comeback for Park Min Young, but it’s also true that it’s our second leads, Lee Yi Kyung and Song Ha Yoon, who end up stealing very large chunks of the show.

Worth a look, with the right lens adjustments – which I’ll talk about shortly.

Review: Love In Contract

THE SHORT VERDICT:

Love In Contract boasts some pretty great key ingredients for a shiny rom-com in the tradition of Hallyu: a good-looking OTP that shares decent chemistry, a tropey-but-potentially-cute premise, an easy-breezy soundtrack to make everything pop.

Unfortunately, I do think that Show is stronger in its first half than in its second, which is where I feel it gets rather lost in the melodramatic backstory that it builds for itself.

However, Show is not without its bright spots, the biggest of which, I feel, is Go Kyung Pyo as our stoic, socially awkward, dorky and endearing male lead.

Nothing to write home about, in the end, unfortunately, but serviceable, for when you want a rom-com, and aren’t opposed to using the FF button for stuff that doesn’t interest you.

Dropped: Forecasting Love And Weather

The main reason I checked out this show, is honestly because of the mixed reactions I’ve heard to this show.

I’d heard some very “meh” reactions to this one, and at the same time, some very positive reactions as well. Plus, Show received decent ratings, which means that the domestic audience liked it reasonably well, or at least, didn’t hate it.

I wondered whether I’d manage to like this one too, with some suitable lens adjustments.

However, that was not to be, unfortunately. 5 episodes in, I’m calling it quits on this one.

Still, I hope that you guys will find this Dropped post helpful, in terms of deciding whether this one is something that you’d enjoy.

Dear kfangurl: Do you think the OTP from What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim will have a happy-ever-after? [Interview with VOGUE India!]

This is another slightly different Dear kfangurl post, you guys.

After my last couple of interviews with VOGUE India (here and here!), Hasina Khatib (@thejoblessjourno on Instagram), who writes for VOGUE India, reached out to me again.

This time, she shared that VOGUE India’s been running a series that explores how fictional pairings would do, in the long run, and asked if I’d like to share my thoughts on the future of the OTP in What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim (my review here).

That sounded like fun, so I said yes, and you can check out the article, where she quotes me selectively, here!

At the same time, similar to the last interview, there was a lot that I said, that didn’t make it into the final article, so with Hasina’s permission, I’m sharing the actual interview questions and answers here with you guys.

The only difference is that I’ve added images to make this more reader-friendly. I hope you all enjoy! ❤️
