Hi everyone!
Thanks so much to those of you who took the time to let me know what you would like to see on the blog, going forward.
Aside from the results of the poll itself, I’ve also been paying close attention to the opinions and perspectives you guys shared in the comments.
Taking everything into account, it felt like an appropriate time to overhaul my entire blogging and Patreon approach and schedule, and today, I think it’s time to let y’all know what I have in mind. 😇
IMPORTANT NOTE:
This is still in a trial and testing stage, so I might change things along the way.
1. THE FUTURE OF THE GROUP WATCH
(A) Will we still have group watches?
In accordance to the outcome of the poll, we will continue with group watches here on the blog, but we will reduce that to once a week.
The new group watch will happen on Saturdays, ie, there will no more group watches on Wednesdays.
Currently, we are finishing up our group watch of Autumn’s Concerto, so the new group watch will take the place of Autumn’s Concerto, when we wrap up that group watch.
(B) How will we decide on what to watch?
For a while now, we’ve had the People’s Choice watch on Wednesdays (determined by a poll of shortlisted titles) and the Editor’s Choice on Saturdays (picked by me).
Since we are moving to a single group watch on Saturdays, it feels right to me, that we adjust the manner in which we choose the show, so that both you and I get a say in what show we watch.
Instead of a poll, we’ll have a brainstorm post, where I will share a shortlist of possible group watch dramas, and you guys can let me know what you think in the comments.
If you have a drama in mind that’s not on the shortlist, feel free to share it in the comments, and tell us why you think it’d make for a great group watch.
In the end, I will take into account all the input that you guys have given, and make an overall decision on what I think would work best for all of us, and then I’ll make an announcement on what we’re watching, and I will also include the group watch schedule, along with that.
(C) What does the timeline for this look like?
We will finish up our group watch of Autumn’s Concerto on Saturday, 3 September 2022.
To give us all a bit of a breather between group watches (which some folks did indicate would be welcome, in the poll), we will start our brainstorm on Saturday, 10 September 2022, and we will have that brainstorm open for almost a week, until 16 September 2022.
I will make an announcement on our selected show on Saturday, 17 September 2022.
And our first Open Thread for the new group watch will go live on Saturday, 24 September 2022.
(D) In summary
Sat, 3 September: Final OT for Autumn’s Concerto
Sat, 10 September: Brainstorm for new group watch
Sat, 17 September: Announcement post for new group watch
Sat, 24 September: First OT for new group watch
2. MORE REVIEWS ON THE BLOG
Coming in a close second in the poll, was the idea of stopping the group watches completely, so that I could focus on writing more reviews.
I’m happy to continue the group watch in some form, because I’ve ended up watching some solid shows that I’m sure I would’ve never gotten around to, on my own (like Stranger, Signal and Heard It Through The Grapevine).
At the same time, the idea of having more reviews on the blog is completely in line with what I’d like for the blog as well.
And so, I’m working to make that happen.
In order to make that happen, there are some key changes that need to happen on both Patreon and the blog.
(A) Changes on Patreon
I’m revamping my posting schedule on Patreon, to enable me to cover shows faster than I have been.
Instead of a 5 day cycle where I post one set of episode notes every 5 days, I will now post 2 sets of episode notes per week, per show covered on Patreon.
This will enable me to finish watching shows faster, and therefore post their reviews on the main blog sooner, as a result.
This is what the current schedule looks like:
MONDAY: A Dream Of Splendor, 4 eps, up from 2 eps
TUESDAY: Shining For One Thing, 4 eps, up from 2 eps
WEDNESDAY: Extraordinary Attorney Woo, 2 eps, up from 1 ep
THURSDAY: Love Like The Galaxy, 4 eps, up from 2 eps
FRIDAY: Alchemy Of Souls, 2 eps, up from 1 ep
SATURDAY: Autumn’s Concerto group watch here on the blog
SUNDAY: k-ent tidbits on Patreon
I’ve been on this new schedule for a week now, and while it’s still doable (ie, I haven’t crashed and burned yet), it does mean that I need to narrow my focus in terms of how I use my time.
Which brings me to..
(B) Changes on the blog
Because I am spending so much more time watching the episodes and writing episode notes, in order to eventually bring more reviews to the blog, I find that I currently don’t have the bandwidth to write other posts for the blog.
Which is why you might have noticed that the blog’s been extra quiet this week (sorry!). 🙈
I basically have my hands full trying to juggle my new viewing schedule, along with writing the increased number of episode notes, and don’t have time to fit in anything else. 🤪
For the time being, I don’t foresee that I will be able to write Dear kfangurl posts, or Flash Reviews of movies or other short drama things.
Hopefully, that will change once I get a better handle on how to manage my new schedule, but until then, the blog’s going to be quieter than usual for a bit, until the more frequent reviews start coming out (starting next month!). 😅
Like I mentioned at the beginning of this post, this is still in a trial stage, so I might be making changes along the way, in order to make everything work better overall.
Please feel free to let me know how this is working for you; I’m always interested to know what you guys think!
Also, thanks for your patience, as I recalibrate, not only here on the blog, but on Patreon as well. (Fighting, me! 👀)
Hopefully, this will result in a space that better speaks to your drama wants and needs!
~KFG ❤️
Hey Fangirl, I know this is late so you may not see this but I just wanted to express my appreciation for your hard work and always trying to incorporate everyone’s preferences to give us the content we want. While I will miss the flash reviews/ Dear KFG posts, please make sure to take care of yourself and work at a sustainable pace!
Welldone you! None of what you’re doing sounds easy. May God help you craft a good strategy and come out even stronger on the other side and to crown your efforts with success, in Jesus name,Amen.
Fangurl – I love that you upped the episodes on some of the shows. Remember that your health is very important and do not get burned out.
Thanks for your thoughtful approach to mixing things up, kfangurl. Looking forward to joining in the future group watches and maybe even participating more on Patreon.
Fighting!
Fewer GW episode reviews will give KFG more time to write other reviews.
And instead of just voting, there is going to be a discussion, so people can justify their choices.
The intensity of that discussion might also be a predictor of how many people will actually participate in GW.
I like the new plan!
maria,
The intensity of that discussion might also be a predictor of how many people will actually participate in GW.
my sentiments exactly!
Instead of a poll, we’ll have a brainstorm post, where I will share a shortlist of possible group watch dramas, and you guys can let me know what you think in the comments.
this is such a good idea, thank you KFG.
also , i would like to suggest, that may be for our GW instead of 2 episodes at a time, we can do 3 episodes. (that of course if it does not crash and burn you, we still need you intact). but if it is possible, we would finish the GW drama faster, and be able to move on to something else, also, may be it will allow us to watch longer dramas, like NIF for example.
That all sound great (as long as you promise to stop and rethink before any crashing and burning, please!)
As a thought, maybe you could consider handing over the blog to us again 😄 We share a thought that you then post? Maybe only once a week, or every two weeks even. Something like the Ask Kfangurl, but instead we suggest things rather than ask. It could be like: Kfangurl’s Fans – or something! I like the idea of an actual fan being the logo 😅 Yes, of course I’m going to shamelessly use a Jang Hyuk fan moment to illustrate my point…
Ele – my heart is sincerely thanking you for that photo…
ele, what drama is this photo from? (sorry, i am kinda late, but hope you’ll see it)
sounds all wonderful to me! Thank you for all you do! ❤️
What you are doing is difficult, especially during these challenging times. Thank you for helping people around the world discover & enjoy kdramas. I used your reviews early in my drama journey to guide my viewing with my mother who was dying of cancer. Your reviews and writing help people in ways you may not know. Again, thank you.
Sounds like a great plan. I like your new approach to choosing the Group Watch. Looking forward to seeing more reviews, more quickly. Thanks for always considering our input!
Fabulous 😊😊😊
