Year In Review: 2013

In in all, I’d hafta say that 2013 has been a big k-year for me. My biggest k-year ever, since I got on the k-train in 2007. After all, this is the year that I:

– experienced what it’s like to take care of a blog;

– discovered the awesome allure of Kim Woo Bin;

– went to my first fanmeet, ever;

– organized my first squee-fest (fun!)

and

– faced my first existential crisis as a blogger. (I survived. It’s all good.)

The downside of all that, though? I watched the least amount of drama, ever, since I got on the drama train.

Tsk. The irony, right?

Musings of a Blindsided Infatuated Fangirl

So the news broke today, out of the blue: Kim Woo Bin’s been dating model Yoo Ji Ahn for the last two years.

!!!!!

Woah.

That came sorta out of the blue, didn’t it??

As a fangirl with a sizable crush on Kim Woo Bin, I hafta say, this sudden piece of news has given me pause for thought. I’m surprised, really, at the unexpected emotions, even though my logical side is coping well.

All I can say at this point is, I’m.. processing.

Head Over Heels for: Kim Woo Bin

Review: Chuno [Slave Hunter]

THE SHORT VERDICT:

Grand. Sweeping. Lush. And jaw-droppingly magnificent.

In every way, from every aspect, Chuno is a literal feast for the senses, and a sumptuous one at that.

From the glorious cinematography, to the pulsing, evocative OST, to the (mostly) well-drawn, (mostly) well-acted characters and their stories, Chuno is a complete experience; one that engulfs you and takes over your very faculties.

Yes, it’s not perfect by any means. But boy, does it have a lot to offer.

Best consumed in large, generous, HD servings. Sink in and let this sexy beast blow you away. I mean the show, of course. Mostly. *cough*

A Liebster Award. Kinda. [Liebster the Ninth!]

So this morning I woke up to a comment on the blog, from fellow blogger Indigo that read, “Hi! I nominated you for Liebster Award” and I hafta confess, my first thought was, “Uh. This is spam, right?”

Coz up till today, I’d never even heard of the Liebster Award, but had made acquaintance with enough spam to make me immediately suspicious.

I mean, sure, I follow Indigo’s (very nice) blog Between Wor(L)ds & she’s definitely legit. But I thought spiders had impersonated her by hijacking her identity or something, and posted something spammy on my blog. For serious, yo.

I’m usually a pretty trusting person. Unless it has to do with suspicious spammy spiders on the world wide web. (Ooh, did’ja see what I did there? That’s technically triple – ok, fine, double – alliteration, twice in a row!)

Admiring (& Ogling): Jang Hyuk

So most of you know me as a total Gong Yoo fangirl by now, and while the Gong Yoo love is still firmly in place, I do also have a lot of love for Jang Hyuk.

In fact, Jang Hyuk holds a pretty special place in my heart.

I once was a pretty big Park Shi Hoo fangirl, and Jang Hyuk was the one who managed to unseat my Park Shi Hoo love and get me to cast aside my Park Shi Hoo fangirl loyalties, which were, once upon a time, pretty strong.

Once I discovered Jang Hyuk, I was pretty fixated and proceeded to spend the next 7 months of my life spazzing over him. Until Gong Yoo showed up on my screen and stole my heart.

It’s little surprise, then, that my second k-love confession post is about fabulous, delicious Jang Hyuk. ♥

Come squee, ogle and swoon with me ^^

The Nature of Fangirl Love

PSH

It’s hard to ignore the latest news that has rocked the k-ent world: Park Shi Hoo accused of raping a 22-year-old trainee.

As the scandal continues to brew, and as more and more facts and “facts” get reported by the media, the discussions and comments among netizens has likewise exploded.

I’m not writing this post to speculate about the truth of the case.

Rather, the varied responses across the different sites and comments sections that I’ve visited have given me food for thought.

There’s one scandal, but there is such a wide variety of responses.

The Unifying Power of the Kdrama-verse

KDUF1

So I’ve been watching kdrama for 6 years now, and blogging for (approximately) 6 weeks. I know, it feels like so much longer, right?

Anyway. I have to say, these last 6 weeks have been a huge eye-opener for me, in so many ways. I’ve realized things that I’d never even thought of in my previous 6 years as a non-blogging kdrama watcher.

Let me rephrase that.

Some of these things are new revelations, and some are things that I’d sort of known in my head, but now, having stepped out of the lurking closet, these things have been magnified to a degree that they sort of blow my mind a little, and give me pause.

I call it the unifying power of the kdrama-verse.
