#FindMyTribe: New shirt design for Kill Me Heal Me!

Lately, I had a couple of requests for a Kill Me, Heal Me shirt, and my various lashings of inspiration suddenly came together today, to make what I think is a pretty awesome shirt, even if I do say so myself! 😉

Celebrating two crowd favorites among Ji Sung’s seven personalities on Kill Me Heal Me, this shirt is a tribute to the lip-gloss loving, unabashedly girlie Yo Na, and the badass rebel with the piercing gaze, Se Gi.

Although in the show, Do Hyun is battling his other personalities to achieve dominance and survival, this shirt is about not just embracing both your inner girlie & your inner rebel; it’s about proudly owning ’em both. Coz why can’t you be both, right?

Despite its show-specific references, as with many of the other #FindMyTribe shirts, this design is able to stand alone even without its drama context.

Dropped: High School Love On

I’m not even exactly sure why, but I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for high school shows done right. That even extends to tweeny high school shows – again, when they’re done right.

When I started this show, I was in the mood for something light and fun, and a reaper angel coming to earth and learning to navigate high school, humanhood and teenhood, sounded like just the ticket.

Flash Review: Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love

Funny story, you guys.

When I first decided to dip my toes in Jang Ok Jung, I happened to tweet about the terrible Mandarin that the Qing characters spoke in episode 1, and was quickly greeted by a flurry of concern from my dramaland friends.

Consistently, pretty much every single one of them advised me – strongly – to drop the show while I could, assuring me that it was for the better, since I’d only get frustrated with the show in its later episodes.

I gladly complied, and congratulated myself on having dodged a dud drama. I quickly poured myself into some other drama, and promptly forgot all about Jang Ok Jung.

That is, until many months later, when I was doing some spring-cleaning on the hard disk where I’d saved this drama, and decided to randomly click through an early-ish episode (I think it was episode 5), just to be extra sure that I wanted to delete the drama from my collection.

Well. Imagine my complete and utter surprise, when I happened on a scene that actually piqued my interest. I soon found myself devouring the drama with the help of my Fast Forward button, and I was hooked.

Hook, line and sinker hooked, I tell ya.

THE MISSING LINK

As much as we enjoy chatting about drama with our online friends, there is one consistent refrain that I’ve heard, over and over – and over – again.

“I can’t talk drama like this with my Real Life friends.”

“There is no one in my Real Life who truly understands my drama love.”

I know you’ve heard it before too. You’ve probably said it before as well, yourself.

And much as I love our online community, I can’t help thinking of this as a missing link, for us as a drama-loving community.

Flash Review: Liar Game

Watching Liar Game, for me, has been a demonstration of just how subjective drama appreciation really is.

You know that saying, one man’s meat is another man’s poison, or, as the case may be, one viewer’s crack is another viewer’s meh? Totally applies here.

During the course of its run, I came across quite a few raves about this show, which is why it made it to my watch list to begin with.

I read comments that used generous terms like “brilliant,” “fantastic,” and “excellent” to describe Liar Game, and went in with cautious high hopes.

But, try as I might, I just couldn’t get into this show.

Review: Bad Guys

THE SHORT VERDICT:

Slick, dark, and appropriately fierce, Bad Guys is a short little series that packs a pretty big punch.

Everything is carefully and beautifully filmed, and for the most part, Bad Guys manages to hit that sweet spot where the writing is complex enough to be interesting, yet simple enough to be accessible to the average viewer.

Add a pretty excellent cast to flesh out the interesting premise, and Show is a winner in almost every checkbox.

My beef with the show is that it gets too melodramatic at parts, which detracts from its unique brand of cool, and instead places it closer to standard kdrama fare than it needs to be. The cinematography also feels less deliberate as we get into the later episodes.

Despite its shortcomings, though, Show remains an interesting and engaging watch.

Gritty and disturbing at times, yet heartening and uplifting at others, Bad Guys manages to be badass with heart.

Pure Pretty: Ji Chang Wook

I am officially on the Ji Chang Wook train, you guys. Finally.

How could I have possibly missed the train before, you ask? Well, I just happened to not feel very interested in checking out any – seriously, any – of his earlier works.

Most of his projects have fallen into either the very melo category, or the very long category, and I’m generally a very picky viewer when it comes to both of those categories. I’m careful where I invest my time – and my tears, heh.

So how I did finally find my way to the train? Why, Healer, of course (Healer-ya~!). I’m 8 episodes in as I type this, and liking it a whole lot.

As I’ve watched the show, my eyes have also gradually and very firmly achieved the Ji Chang Wook Appreciating Upgrade, and I finally understand what the fuss is about. Swoon.

All I can say is, I’m sorry I’m late to the (spazz) party!

Now, what better way to make up for lost time and celebrate my new-found appreciation of the Ji Chang Wook awesome, than a robust shot of Pure Pretty, right? 😉

Review: Dating Agency Cyrano

THE SHORT VERDICT:

Breezy, light, and just a little bit quirky, Dating Agency Cyrano is a fun little show for when you’re in the mood for a bit of mindless fluff.

Plot logic regularly requires some suspension of disbelief, but there are enough plus points in this show to still make it an enjoyable watch.

More than the overarching story, and more than the cases of the day, it’s the characters and their warmth that wormed their way into my heart, then resonated and lingered with me.

Far from cracktastic, but still a good dose of fun.

Flash Review: Plus Nine Boys

Plus Nine Boys is a lovely little drama that’s cute without being cutesy; emotionally engaging without being overwrought or sappy; funny without being OTT campy.

Its plot points are everyday and unremarkable, but therein lies its slice-of-life, I-can-really-relate-to-that appeal. In just 14 episodes, I grew to really enjoy these characters. And after 14 episodes, I didn’t want to say goodbye.

These characters had started to believably feel like the folks next door; folks whom I watched through their living room window as they lived their lives and I lived mine; folks who felt like real people, and with whom I wouldn’t have minded spending another 10, 20, or even 40 episodes with.
