Launching: The #FindMyTribe Movement!

As much as we enjoy chatting about drama with our online friends, there is one consistent refrain that I’ve heard, over and over – and over – again.

“I can’t talk drama like this with my Real Life friends.”

“There is no one in my Real Life who truly understands my drama love.”

I know you’ve heard it before too. You’ve probably said it before as well, yourself.

And much as I love our online community, I can’t help thinking of this as a missing link, for us as a drama-loving community.

In my line of work, I get to meet new people regularly, and interact with them for a limited period of time, before we say our goodbyes and part ways.

Occasionally, through some unexpected turn of conversation, I stumble on the fact that someone is a drama fan too. And when that happens, it’s like striking gold, honestly.

Our conversation suddenly takes on a whole new dimension, and we get to actually gush about our favorite dramas, actors and actresses, and there’s an almost instantaneous feeling of kinship.

Coz in that moment, we know that the other person gets exactly what we’re talking about. And it feels fantastic.

And when those kinds of moments happen, don’t we all wish that we could have a taste of that Real Life, in-person gushing, well, more?

That’s where the #FindMyTribe movement comes in.

The idea is, to help drama fans recognize other drama fans in their local area; to help us find our tribe.

You might be wondering, why tribe?

I’m using “tribe” as a word to describe “people like me” in a particular area.

I found “my kdrama people” by coming online and meeting all my lovely blogosphere friends. Now, I’d like us to take it to the next level, so that we can find “our people” in our Real Life orbits, wherever we might be in the world.

I know that not everyone is comfortable with shouting out our drama-loving status to the world. I mean, most of us have already met the quizzical eye from more than a few friends when we happen to mention our love for kdrama. Why invite that quizzical eye – that you’re-kinda-weird-aren’t-you side-eye – from even more people, right?

Which is why I personally don’t own a “I ♥ kdrama” shirt, although there’s really nothing wrong at all with wearing one.

What I’d like to offer everyone, is a more subtle way to wear our drama love. To show our love for our dramas and all that comes with it, in ways that only a fellow fan would understand.

It’d be like our “secret club handshake” in a manner of speaking.

Y’know, kinda like a nudge-nudge-wink-wink thing among us.

My belief is that when we spot someone in our orbit wearing these shirts, that we create opportunities to connect with other fans.

Essentially, I’d like the shirts to allow us to do 3 things:

1. To find other drama fans in your local area;

2. To then have the opportunity to reach out and have a once-off drama conversation;

3. And maybe even to make a friend.

I’ve hit it off really quickly with almost-strangers once we established a mutual love for drama, and have had some fantastic conversations right off the bat. And I believe you will too. I mean, there’s just this feeling of kinship, of “you GET it,” and “we are the same” when fellow drama fans meet that is quite magical. And I’d like us to make that magic happen a lot more.

I will be putting out new shirt designs regularly in support of this movement, and while the focus may vary, ie, sometimes it’s focused on a show, sometimes it’s more general, I can promise you this: the designs will be subtle and obtuse to the non-drama fan.

To kick us off, here are the first 2 4 designs, celebrating the Healer awesome. I am personally loving that show, and wanted to give it some love.

If you click on the pictures, they’ll bring you to the detailed description of the shirt and a closer view of the design.

* A special shout-out to my dear friend Jo, whose feedback and ideas were foundational in the design of these shirts. Thank you, Jo! You rawk.

If you’d like updates on future shirt designs, please subscribe! I’ll put out an update with every new shirt design made available. 🙂

1. Buy a shirt – or several shirts.

The shirts ship internationally, so you can buy a shirt no matter where you live in the world.

2. Tell your friends.

Like the idea? Spread the word, whether you’re ready to buy a shirt or not. Let’s share, and get the word out there, so that we can gather our tribe. 🙂

3. Reach out.

When you do spot someone else wearing a #FindMyTribe shirt, reach out. Have a quick introduction, enjoy a fab conversation. Maybe even make a new friend!

Let’s spread the word. Let’s find our people.

  3. Hi there, I really want the Chuno hoodie but it seems like it won’t reach the minimum prints required. Will you be making any more campaigns alike?

Btw, I came upon your blog because I kinda clicked a link by mistake, but I love it! 🙂

    • Hi there, Moni!! So glad you found me and the blog – sometimes there are good mistakes, I like to think! 😉

Are you the one who’s placed the currently single order on the Chuno hoodie? We just need 2 more orders to get it to print, so I will do another round of promotions on FB & Twitter. If you could help with spreading the word, that would be great, coz every little bit helps. 🙂 If you aren’t the single order currently on the Chuno hoodie, then we’d just need one more order. The campaign closes in a day, so we’ve still got another day to try to make this happen!

In the event that we still don’t have 3 orders by the time it closes, there’s still hope! You can register your interest on the hoodie’s teespring page, and when enough people have registered their interest, the campaign will restart. I am also looking to possibly re-open all campaigns at a slightly later date, but am still working out the details on that. If/when that happens, I will make an announcement on the site, so if you’re subscribed to the blog, you’ll get an alert on that. 🙂

      • Yes I’m the one who placed the order. That means we still need 2 more orders! I did spread the word on some social media websites though. 🙂 I sure hope it’s gonna work. Otherwise, I subscribed to your blog. Nice to meet you btw! 😀

        • Great to meet you too, Moni!! 😀 It’s always great to meet new drama-loving friends! And thanks for helping to spread the word – I’m crossing my fingers too, that it works out! If it doesn’t come through though, I’ll work toward re-opening the campaigns at a later time, and will announce it on the blog when I do. Not giving up! ^^

        • MONI!! CHUNO HOODIE MADE IT!!! 😀 I am so ridiculously pleased that you’ll be able to get your Chuno hoodie!! I would do cartwheels right now, if I was confident that I wouldn’t fall flat on my face in the process! XD

          • OMG I AM SO HAPPY!!! I don’t care if I’m giggling all by myself, I’m gonna pick up my guitar and sing at the top of my lungs, that’s how excited I am!! It’s all thanks to you and you’ll probably hear from me again when I’ll receive the hoodie! 😀

            • The campaign just ended successfully, and I am now breathing a sigh of relief – occasionally, people cancel their orders. It’s now an in-the-bag DONE DEAL, and your Chuno hoodie is going into production and will be on its way to you soonish! WOOT! 😀

              • Check it out, it is so neat (the chuno hoodie).

I love it so much!! Thanks again!

I also saw the SoGC tee, and it looks amazing! I made a post on Tumblr a few days ago, if it helps. I’m also planning on buying it before the campaign ends, although I’m broke right now *the endless struggles of being a student*.

                • WOOT!!! 😀 😀 😀 Thanks for the update, Moni!! I’m SO pleased that you’re loving your Chuno hoodie! We both know how that almost felt like a miracle, that it made it to print! XD

I’ve taken the liberty of editing your comment to make your picture show (I’m the only one with the admin rights to do that, on the blog), so that other people can get a peek at the Chuno hoodie awesome too!

YAY! 😀 Thanks for helping to spread the word on Shining Tiger – I’m really pretty proud of the shirt design, even if I do say so myself! The shirt’s still available for a couple more weeks, so I hope that gives you enough time to place your order when you’re ready! May we all receive nice big windfalls, so that we can order all the shirts we want! XD

  5. I love your idea, and your designs.
Please, please, please could you make one (or 3) for Kill Me Heal Me?

    • Hi Sabrina! I love that your blog’s all pug-related. I love pugs, and mine is named Cookie. She’s a dark fawn and quite the boisterous princess 🙂 Thanks for the suggestion on a Kill Me Heal Me shirt.. I’d like to do one, since I am rather enjoying the show. Let me chew on what would make a suitable design – stay tuned! 🙂

  7. I’m probably in the minority but any chance you would add men’s styles? The women’s styles run small and they won’t fit me 😦
I promise to order at least 3 shirts if you do! ❤

  8. Congratulations on this wonderful idea! I hope it takes off! I have been a long time follower of your blog, but have been busy and haven’t checked in awhile. I saw this and immediately had to get a shirt.
I bought the “Got your back” shirt and hopefully it will get printed. I will wear it proudly! I am heading to the KPOP USA (In Miami) this June and will wear it to help promote the idea. If anyone is going to it…wear your shirt as well!

    • Thanks for the support, seoulfulsurfer! 😀 I’ve just added relaxed/men’s fit AND hoodies to the collection, so do check ’em out here, and help to spread the word! 😀 I would LOVE to have more folks wearing these shirts to that KPOP USA event! ^^

  9. This is such a cute idea! I am lucky in that I am surrounded (or I was) in real life with friends who also love drama. Now that I’ve moved away of course it’s much harder to chat with them about it. *sigh* Though I do have friends here who watch. I shall have to think about getting one of these shirts though, they are super fun!
