Hi everyone! I watched a video somewhere which is from an asianvdramavbut I’m trying to find out which one.
It showed a scene from the leads childhood – poor boy on the streets meets a girl but her parents drag her away eventually.
The guy is then showed to have grown up and worked hard and super rich now (typical brooding arrogant male lead behaviour).
Now I’m guessing he either met this girl and fell in love or got arranged to be with her. There’s a scene where I think an older pair, maybe bosses, her parents or in-laws are scolding and insulting her and this guy stands up for her and then takes her away.
These are 3 scenes from that video I remember and I’m trying to find which drama this is. If anyone has a vague hint even, please share!

Dear kfangurl, I have a question for you – can you recommend dramas that are really good and don’t involve romance? I have just finished Healer and really liked the love story there. When picking a new series I searched for drama that does not have romance on purpose because I did not want to “replace” the OTP from Healer with a new OTP right away, but I still wanted to watch something engaging. Two examples that come to mind are My Mister (thanks for recommending it! I loved it so much!) and Hot Stove League (which is the one I’m watching at the moment). I’m sure there are more. And thank you so much for this awesome blog! I very much enjoy reading your reviews before and after watching a drama (except for Someday or One Day. I stopped reading the moment you said that’s best and returned after finishing it 🙂 )
Hello, I’m not KFG but I too love My Ajusshi and maybe we have similar tastes? I would recommend Misaeng – doesn’t really have a love line and is pretty good. I love Life On Mars. It has a minorrrr love line but it won’t replace Healer, don’t worry, and it’s a really good show. Or When The Devil Calls Your Name – I’m on it now, it’s quite quirky and has its own beat. If I can think of any others will let you know!

I wanted to recommend another web drama for you – Handmade Love! It stars Lee Soo Hyuk and Lee Suji. It has 8 episodes around 20 minutes long on Youtube. It’s very aesthetically pleasing and has some great quotes! Would love to hear your thoughts on it!

Hi KFG! Not sure where to put this so I’m putting it here. I’ve a suggestion for the blog – would it be a good idea to have a clickable list for type of drama? Now it’s easy to look for type of review but not so easy to find type of drama. Eg K/C/J/Taiwanese drama… or drama special/ full length drama/ web drama/ short drama etc. I was recently thinking of watching a short drama and realised that I didn’t know how to get a list of short dramas to choose from. Now I’ve just realised that I can find from the tags at the end of a post or look through the full list of shows. But this might not be so intuitive for someone who’s not familiar with the site. Something for you to consider! If you’ve thought about it and decided against it please feel free to ignore this suggestion!

I have only one time watch a Drama twice in a row. “Someone Like You” from Taiwan. I never see it on top lists but it is on mine and I watch millions of Dramas, K, J, C, T etc.

I have a “burning question” for you. Having watched Kdrama’s for several years now I have noticed there seems to be a thread of bathroom scenes. Now I’m aware we all have our bathroom needs, but I find it somewhat questionable why we have to see the men standing at a urinal talking about whatever subject or worse seeing someone do there daily needs sitting on the toilet. As an viewer from the USA it embarrasses me. The Korean dramas are so very careful about showing explicit love scenes and viewers will usually find the couple in bed in the a.m. w/o explicit details, which I think is good compared w/ our American style of movies which leaves nothing to our imaginations. Thank you for letting me ask this burning question and maybe you can shed some light into my thoughts?

🙃🙃🙈 I LOVE medical dramas too.. Especially well made ones that give a good look into the medical issues both admin related as well as doctor nurse and staff related and real medical science related
E.R. / Grey’s Anatomy / House etc were some of my top serials.
Korean medical dramas proved good fun for me – Cain and Abel was the other one I watched (well Nice Guy is not technically a medical Drama but had a connect with docs and hospitals) / DOTS too (although I dropped it for different reason)
I was so impressed by the detailed OT scenes in Doctors.
I am not a doctor but I watch medical documentaries too with great interest.. So I was thinking that the scenes were done so brilliantly and so realistically with such detail and high production value (camera work – sets – props – actual surgery scenes)
So to hear you Carol – being a neurosurgeon – say that you liked these scenes made me feel Validated in my admiration 😊

True the story was bothersome and loose and slacked after first half – but the characters were so engaging.. And cozy toasty crinkle eyed Kim Rae Won is exactly as you worded him.

Hello kdrama lovers. I’ve watched quite a few dramas during the last couple years and every now and then a scene will pop up in my mind and I try to recall whats’s the name of the drama. Usually I can remember it after looking at my list but now I’mstuck.Maybe someone can help:
the scene is where the girl is standing somewhere and different people walk up to her and give her a flower which was arranged by the male lead. Then he shows up with flowers also. I can;t remember what drama it is. Any help is appreciated for my peace of mind

It’s a pretty common scene in a few dramas. I’m wracking my brain but can’t remember which ones. I can only think of Five Enough had this scene only it was a balloon brought over one by one by passing children.

I can’t remember if she was waiting at a bus stop or train station….but for some reason about 5 or 6 different people give her a flower. I’m still thinking

Hello Fangurl, Looking for a new Kdrama to watch on Netflix and I came across “When the Camilla Blooms” and I have read it has favorable reviews. However in looking at your review list, I don’t see it mentioned unless I’m missing the wrong title. I have viewed 3 episodes so far and waiting to get a feel for the drama so this is why I was looking for your review. I was hoping you might give me some insight if I should continue? Seems the best place to put it. About the new design/template: the one thing I really miss is the ability to directly jump to the comments of a post, from the main page I mean. After I’ve read a complete post I often check back on comments made by other visitors, but instead of using the direct I link that was there now I have to scroll through the entire post first.

So far, this one gives me all my big asks: big banner, good readability, a sidebar that appears on all posts and pages for easy navigation, broad paragraphs, a generally broad layout that makes good use of space (versus skinny layouts that make paragraphs look ridiculously long) and a spacious comment section where the nesting doesn't create big indents too quickly.
I'm not sure if the perfect theme for us exists, but I'll do my best to track it down, if it does! 😉

I’ve been a big fan of Roger Evert and was really sad when he passed. As far as reviews were concerned, his writing was superb and I sometimes just enjoyed reading his books instead of watching movies. I’d assume you are relatively young but your insight and writing skills equal to that of Roger Evert if not more. The detailed analysis of each character in My Mister helped me appreciate that work even more and I am ready to watch it for the 3rd time. I am so glad I discovered your site. Thank you!
BTW, I realized that I was one year older than Lee Ji-An’s grandma as they shot the most moving funeral ceremony. I was born in 1947
and I am an Aquarian.
To Judy H. & Fangirl, I’m also a grandmother & the scene when Lee Ji-An was saying farewell to her grandmother was so touching. I have rewatched this drama 3X because I wasn’t sure if this couple were in love? Looking back at some of the scenes lead me to the impression that they were in love, Ji-An’s love was obvious. When Dong Hoon was angry because Ji-An threw away his slippers he angrily told her, “Buy me some more slippers”, I love you was what he should have said. When he ran to her after she was injured but kept his distance while he sat at the foot of the bed comforting her said a lot. He was still a married man and he wasn’t going to cross that line.
In episode 16, he seemed so delighted to see Ji-An @ the cafe, that smile on his face said it all.
And he initiated a strong handshake, this time he wasn’t going to let her go so far away from him again. And she will call him for a delicious meal😍.

Hi Anamika! Sorry for the late reply.. I only got about halfway through Legend of the Blue Sea before I lost interest, BUT, I have recently started on TKEM, so I do expect to write about it in the not-too-distant future! 🙂
Now that’s interesting – I did like the Monarch but I thought Legend of the Deep Blue Sea was much more enjoyable all the way around.
Well, it’s still early days for me and TKEM, so we’ll see how that pans out, but yeah, I really wanted to like Legend of the Blue Sea, but by the time Jo Jung Seok finished his cameo (which was fantastic), I’d lost interest in the main romance. 😝 I thought the early eps were fun though. The mermaid-out-of-water hijinks were quite hilarious!

My young friends were so googly-eyed about him that I had decided I must watch something of his.
I tried Boys Over Flowers but just couldn’t go beyond two episodes .. too much bossing the girl and demeaning towards women in general I thought .. unrealistic school setting .. buffoonish teachers ..
I lost it when the Lead female is given a makeover at the LMH home and then also decides to go the the party .. I was like KILL me for such low self esteem :-O
So I moved to HEIRS. I was fully charmed by LMH. I was so surprised how he sneaked up on me – because his looks aren’t exactly my type. His still pics did nada for me. OBOY .. on moving images .. he liquefies .. I was molten gooey-ness ..
What I loved most about HEIRS is of course Kim Won Bin — WOW .. I wanted to split Lead Female into TWO ..so he could have her also. I was SOOOOOO heartbroken for him .. to pull of a second lead male actor who stays with you .. and you still ache for him .. EEEEESH .. that’s some power acting!!
Anyway I diverge .. So LMH got on my list to watch .. And I tried Legend of the Blue Sea.
He did his liquefy me thingy again – BUT the Fishy Lady”s DID act (DID – Damsel in Distress) started giving me the hives ..
The DID is a KDrama female lead type that puts me off like no other!! (K2 ‘s Yoona was the height of DID and inspite of Wookie I slammed the remote and switched off midway she got so much on my nerves). The story also made zero sense to me.
DROP!! My Brain screeched.
I’ve also moved to KING-Eternal Monarch. It’s pure and simple LMH and Kim Go Eun acting and chemistry that I am enjoying .. LOVE Kim Go Eun.
But I am watching slow (no binge on this) .. with the Dramabean Episode guide .. those double characters in both worlds and their names are getting so confusing that I needed to do that. Thus SLOW!

Any kdrama recommendations for tweens? My 10 yo is really interested in them. She draws manga, so she likes cartoony, quirky fearures as well. I know she’s not the target age range, but I’d appreciate any potential ideas. I’d be watching with her, so I can work around a tricky scene or two.
I started a kdrama called “Extracurricular” on Netflix and so far so very good:) (4 episodes in). Different from the standard kdrama in style and content. Has that movie feel and quality. Not sure if you still read comments here, but if you’re ever in the mood for something mellow and deep(ish), I would recommend you watch A Thousand Goodnights. It’s very slow, but it has beautiful shots of Taiwan and a really touching story. I found it to be a great night time watch, when you want to slow down and relax!

I so appreciate your website and all your eloquent reviews and insights! I love the conversations you have with other Kdrama fans. Plus I go on your recommendations, and am totally bingeing Love in the Moonlight. I only started watching Korean content on Netflix over the past year (the gateway show being Tune in for Love,”which quickly progressed to Something in the Rain and One Spring Night. I quickly revised my assumption that Asian dramas were subpar, stuffed with goofy tropes, silly story lines and bad overacting. Based on your reviews, I watched Because this is My First Life, Secret Affair and Romance is a Bonus Book. I was impressed. Two weeks ago, I subscribed to Rakuten Viki to watch stuff I couldn’t get on Netflix. Overall, I am finding Korean-produced shows such a refuge and healing balm especially now. Reading Jesse’s post and other people’s comments including yours, I thought, right on! You’re expressing exactly what I’m feeling — that American shows reward the lowest common denominator, presenting over-the-top violence and meaningless, mechanical sex. In contrast, Korean TV and film makers still provide a sense of innocence — a moral framework that includes honour, love, goodness, mercy, purpose and the universal attributes that make us a worthwhile species. I mean how many times do I need to see a muscle-bound Hollywood hero blow something up real good, and then bonk the lead actress? Or same same but in reverse order? I hope the Oscar validation of “Parasite” doesn’t influence Korean productions to go dark, i.e. the movie “Burning” which I found artistic with a capital “A” and rather heavy. Okay, so not everything has to be PG and rainbows, but there’s a slippery slope from “gritty reality” to the kind of nihilism we see all the time now in the name of transgressive, indie filmmaking. Another reason why I can’t stop watching Kdramas right now is that as an Asian person who grew up in a white-dominant culture, it’s so refreshing to see kick-ass Asian leads in compelling stories. Here in Canada, like the rest of the world, we’re colonized by American culture and Western ideals of what is handsome or beautiful. So it’s heartening to see what is often framed as “other” in Hollywood express agency and power to create a more diverse, beautiful world. Whew — thanks for hearing me out.

Hi Fangirl, I have a question for you, after finishing watching the 2010 Kdrama, “Oh My Lady”. I had specifically chose this Kdrama because of Choi Si Won because I loved him in “She is Pretty” as the 2ML (he was a better fit for the FL). In the Kdrama, OML, there are two young actresses whose names I could not find on the cast list. These young actresses were adorable and because it has been 10 years since this Kdrama, I was wondering if these young talented actresses can be found in other Kdramas?

I´m currently watching ¨nobody knows¨ (I recommend) which is yet another police, murder drama…I´ve come to really enjoy this genre ever since I watched ¨Live¨on Netflix… dunno why I´m adding this but ummm yeahhh uwu thank you so much for this blog

I love your blog (I recently just found it! And I was like “where have you been for the past year of my life?!”) and tend to agree with a lot of what you write in your reviews. I would love to read even your flash opinions on the Arthdal Chronicles. I was blown away at how fresh everything about them felt. From the plot to actually strong female characters to the copious amounts of mud that everything is coated in. Also, as eye-candy, Song Joong Ki is brilliant, shirtless and gorgeous.. ^^

Hi, I love your blog and value your opinion. Now, I just want to highly (literally to the highest power) recommend you something. If you want to see a drama that fires on all cylinders: Masterful script (tight with no useless filler), very intriguing time travel mystery plot, epic romance with amazing chemistry btw leads, and quality production, please watch “Someday or One Day!” I’ve been watching dramas since 1997 and have become so picky that if a drama has a below average script, I won’t touch it. Lately, nothing’s been impressing me until this Taiwanese drama, out of nowhere, came out and stole my heart.
Not since “Nirvana in Fire”, “Ten Miles”, and “Healer” (aside from the conspiracy plot ending) have I seen such an amazingly written, acted (two leads made me feel their love was real and I LOVED their chemistry and facial expressions), and produced series. There’s so much crap today that nothing’s been catching my interest until I caught avenuex’s youtube review of this. Boy, she sure wasn’t kidding when she labelled it the best contemporary drama she’s seen since starting her channel.
Finally, a romance with the most intriguing time travel mystery plot that’s intricately written and doesn’t fall apart. This is the time travel story I’ve always wanted to read or watch: Main girl time travels into the body of another girl and gets that girl’s crush (male lead) to fall hard for her (he didn’t like the original inhabitant). I’ve always wanted to read about a romance plot like that because it’ll be such fun to watch the male lead slowly fall for someone he’s never liked, but now is drawn towards only due to the main girl’s soul inhabiting the body. It’s like he truly falls for her soul/spirit and not the body. Sooo romantic!!! And the drama does such a good job at showcasing the male lead’s “falling” process layer by layer and doesn’t rush it. So delicious and swoonworthy!!!
No episodes feel like filler and such care is placed into the narrative and character development. The ending (happy, yet bittersweet) totally justified the means and resolved the narrative in the best way possible. It’s both an incredible love story and a story about self-worth and the drama achieved both without seeming forced or preachy. I couldn’t believe how seamlessly the writers were able to intertwine both the love/self-worth plots without sacrificing either. Both heavily overlapped with the other, so it was impossible to become invested in one and not the other -I loved this as I hate too many plot threads that go absolutely nowhere.
“Someday or One Day” is an absolute masterpiece and will go down as one of my favorite dramas of all time along with “Nirvana in Fire” and “Ten Miles.” I just want you to know that 2019 has churned out a drama that’s very much worth your time. If you care about romance, characters with amazing chemistry, an intriguing time travel story with a carefully constructed script, please give this one a go. You won’t regret it. Right now, I’m jealous of anyone who hasn’t seen it yet as I want to erase my memories so I can watch it for the first time again.

@usagi7777777 – Just wrapped this drama up. Appreciate your post as I would never have watched otherwise. It certainly is a different and bold drama. A lot of people loved this drama – it has 14,000 followers (and counting) on Viki alone.
I am so very happy for you and for all the fans who enjoyed this show! While I did enjoy the show it did not work for me as much as for other viewers. I will say one of the main reasons I continued to watch was for the amazing acting talent of Alice Ke. She had masterful control of this role every…single…second of this drama. The other reason was is that I love time travel based dramas so I was curious to see how it played out. I truly loved Shi Shi’s opening song (it was perfect) but Wu Bai’s Last Dance did not appeal to me at all and I felt it was important to at least like it because it was a consistent piece of the puzzle. I also appreciate that the writer touched on important issues in this drama.
While I did not love as much as others I still got a lot from this drama. Younger fans and fans of school dramas will like this one a lot.
For anyone wanting to watch this drama I would say:
– Don’t use the FF button as every scene is important. Key scenes flash by quickly and they are all important.
– If you can try to binge the 13 episodes or at least as close together as possible as to not get lost.
– It has a slow start but before you know it it picks up so don’t get discouraged.

I have a question to ask you kfangurl? I subscribe to both Netflix & Viki to watch the dramas offered. Except there are Kdramas I would like to watch on Viki but say the laws for licensing are prohibited to view this film. Is this the case only in the USA where I reside?

Hi there Carol, there are geo-restrictions on Viki in many countries, not only the USA. In fact, most kdramas on Viki are not available to view in Singapore where I am. These geo-restrictions are not limited to Viki; there are also geo-restrictions on YouTube that apply to various dramas that are available. My personal impression, though, is that viewers in the USA enjoy access to the widest range of kdramas on Viki, so small yay? If you’d like to access the geo-restricted dramas, you could consider using a VPN service to alter your digital location. I hope that helps! 🙂
Wow, kfangurl I wasn’t expecting such a quick reply and thank you for clarifying why some Kdramas are not available for viewing here in the USA. And I guess I should be grateful that I am able to have a more variety than some other countries so I will try not to complain. I visited Singapore several years ago and I was so impressed with how clean everything was plus the beautiful airport. Although a little unsettling to observe soldiers w/ machine guns patrolling the airport waiting areas.

I also admit that thanks to some of your reviews I persevered to the end / it was like with ‘Dream High’ – at first I wondered why I was watching it, but I checked your review and persisted and after a few episodes I was really hooked. And thanks to your ratings – it was like with ‘School 2013’ it realy wasn’t my target but it was thanks to your A+ that I met my platonic love / Kim Woo Bin – he will always be in my heart, and besides, I really liked this drama – and this was only thanks to you!! / Thank you, thank you, thank you very much for that. You really do a great job !!! You don’t even realize how much easier you make my life, cause there is a lot of drama and so little time to devote to them all 🙂 And finally I wanted to recommend you and basically I wanted to know your opinion about a certain drama ‘Arsenal Military Academy’ I admit that I had fun at least when the main characters appeared on the screen. I think you will really like this drama. It has all the features: a ton of real sincere laughter / I laughed a hundred, although it is probably a matter of taste /, amazing chemistry between the characters / really well chosen practically the whole cast / and these amazing smiles of real killers of female hearts every now and then thrown towards the viewer. And let’s not forget HIM! The real king of the scene – he steals virtually every moment that has been given to us /To quote the classic: ‘I would rather … be ruined by you than destroyed by …’ Ji Jin – guarantees that you will be destroyed by him and you will still love him ;)/ Although the other heroes also found the way to my heart although I admit sometimes it was a road with obstacles.
It is true that drama has its moments ‘really?’ and why?’ but which drama is not there – please throw a stone or at least some title. I would love to see such drama closer; p
Eh, and I finish, because after the drama is over, as usual, I have a certain hunger for the next dramas …. buuu how to live ?! ;p

As for shows with tight writing, most of them belong in the more “serious” genre, I think, like The First Half Of My Life, Nirvana in Fire, Secret Love Affair and My Mister. But, you might want to try Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, if you haven’t seen it yet. I remember feeling like it was solidly written, even though it was a cute rom-com. 🙂
It has a while since I left a comment. I finished watching “Chocolate” which I loved & I’m now watching “Crashlanding on Me”, another good kdrama. My comment to you is how much I love the music they play in the background of the kdrama series. Frequently I find myself searching for these melodies on You Tube & then listen to them many hours of my day. Of coarse I don’t understand a word they are saying but love the melodies. My very favorite is the song from, “I’m Sorry, I Love You”, Snow Flower, & the sadness it brings me from this touching kdrama. Thank you, Carol Shibuya

Thank you Fangirl for your reply. I just started watching, “Secret Garden” because both actors, the female from “Chocolate” & the male actor from “Crash-landing on You” are the featured leads. It is a older kdrama, I looked through your review section & didn’t notice a review. It is a long series, 20 episodes. I liked the versatility of the characters when because of a magic potion they drink, each transferred into the others bodies. There were several very funny lines from this situation.

I'd wondered why it sounded familiar; it was only upon some googling, that I realize I've seen the source movie, which is Thai (if you had trouble finding the source movie, it could be because you were looking for a TW movie?). To be honest, I didn't manage to love the movie as much as everyone else, so I'm not sure how I'll respond to the drama adaptation. 😅 After reading your comment, I dipped my toe in and watched E1. I can't say I love it yet, but will continue to see how I feel about E2. Fingers crossed that I'll like it as much as you do! 🙂

Hi! I’m just curious as you are a BIG Gong Yoo fan, but why is there no review or post about Goblin / Guardian : The Lonely & Great God? This kdrama got me hooked, & in just 3 months (i started this August) i have already finished watching 20 titles. Yes, i have given up my social life. lol!

I can’t. Omg. I just started/binged the available episodes for Extraordinary You and I just had to tell you that it’s freaking amazing. It’s actually blowing my mind. It’s like, everything about the concept for W, but like, done right. The plot is not perfect but the story and setup tie together so well. Kim Hye Yoon is ACTUALLY beyond adorable, I actually really really REALLY love her right now. She’s hilariously witty and sparky, but without being annoying. She’s so so easy to root for and is incredibly likable and entertaining. I definitely have some guesses and thoughts about the directions of the plot generally, but for the most part, it’s not predictable at all. It’s so so refreshing. Something about it just gives it that IT factor that makes it incredibly addicting to me! The pacing is super fast but like, not actually hectic or messy at all. It’s very light and comedic, without trying very hard. I’m loving the meta and poking fun at all the romance tropes. But it’s also got some really good nuggets of more meaningly thoughts and ideas floating around in there. It’s all very natural and feels organic to the setup and idea of the whole story. I just had to rant somewhere. I REALLY think you should give it a shot.
I also started Camellia lately and I…kinda like it, but definitely not as much as Extraordinary You. Maybe just personal preference, but Camellia is also pretty good. I love the thriller aspect and overall it’s just very slick. I’ve found lately that suddenly I’m just way more into kdrama than cdrama lately. There are a couple of cdramas that I know are objectively fairly good and definitely better than previous years. But…something about kdramas make it very easy to get sucked in and fully decompress. For a while now, I’ve felt like keeping up with cdramas is more like a chore than pure entertainment. Now with the uber stress in school lately and just life, kdramas are the way to go for me. I find that I don’t really need to actively search for “quality dramas”. For the most part they’re all pretty up to standard. No one drama will be subpar. As in, I might drop a kdrama because I don’t like the premise or it’s just not for me. But it won’t be one of those, ohhh I really tried to like it but I couldn’t get past that one glaring technical flaw. Or like, it doesn’t feel like cdramas where it sometimes feels like China is trying really hard to obey a formula and just dish out crappy dramas at a really fast pace. You know what, cdramas for me lately have felt really like fast fashion. They latch onto a certain trend and just mass produce imitations of the same thing. Maybe I’m being very harsh but I just miss feeling like the production team created a drama bc they were excited about an idea and not just…fulfilling their hours for paycheck. And I know staff and everyone work really hard on EVERY drama, but it can get really hard to actually feel that. Ok. Rant over. Sorry. I’m just in a severe cdrama slump.
Doesn’t help that I’ve recently gotten into Stranger Things and Extraordinary You. So just feeling disappointed in cdramas lately and it’s hard to see the nuggets of gold past that disappointment. Stranger Things is hard to live up to.
Not to say that there aren’t still genuinely amazing cdrama nuggets, like The World Between Us or Burning Ice, but like…idk most tend to be amazing but very heavy. Btw you should absolutely watch The World Between Us. It’s short but packs SUCH a punch. It’s some really heavy stuff, but is absolutely amazing.

I’m only 9 eps in at the moment, but it seems to be shaping up nicely. I have so many questions, but I’m hopeful that Show will reveal sufficient answers in the episodes to come! 🙂 And you’re right, Kim Hye Yoon is very likable in this! She’s so willing to go over-the-top for her character, and there’s no hint of embarrassment about her delivery, which is great. 😀
Sorry to hear you’ve been in a C-drama slump.. I kind of know what you mean, with the fast fashion analogy. There are a LOT of C-dramas being churned out lately, and it can often feel like the same plot points are being recycled by different shows, with nothing really that fresh or interesting to show for it. I’m still finding my way around with C-dramas, to know better which ones I will like, and which ones I am unlikely to take to, despite popular buzz. It’s a learning curve! 😝 I’m recently really enjoying The Longest Day in Chang’an though! And Le Coup de Foudre seems promising, 2 eps in. 🙂

Answer me 1988 is my all time favourite drama and I notice that you reference it a lot in your reviews! I have a recommendation for you! It’s a C-drama that has been giving me serious AM1988 feels, called ‘Le Coup de Foudre’. Maybe you’ve heard of it? It’s a super cute drama, with a fabulous family/sibling storyline as well as a few ‘friends to lovers’ storylines as well. The drama follows a group of friends from school to college to adulthood. I know you might be watching ‘Our Youth’ but I feel like this drama also comes close to replicating the AM 1988 feels (and its on viki with English subs lol!)
I haven’t finished the show yet – so I have no guarantees about the ending, but I felt like I owed it to you to put this show on your radar if i wasn’t already 🙂 Thanks again!

I've been super slow with progressing on Our Youth, coz I only put on an ep of it every once in a while, when I feel like I need a little something to freshen my drama palate a little. The lack of English subs also makes it a show that I don't reach for all the time. I’m currently in the early eps of Le Coup de Foudre.. I’m not loving it yet, but it’s not bad. Maybe I’m just not in the right brain space for school-themed dramas.. 😅 I do plan to keep going, so hopefully the love bug will bite soon! 😉
I didn’t feel it until a about the 8th episode and then it was because of a conversation that was personally meaningful. So it may not be the right one for you (at least now).
That’s good to know, thanks. 🙂 I find that I like the premise, but find the female lead overly hesitant quite often, and I find the halting way that she speaks a little too exaggerated. I also sometimes don’t find the funny parts funny. Like when the male lead got drunk accidentally and acted out of the ordinary. I’m quite sure that was supposed to be funny, but I wasn’t feeling it. Still, this one has enough bright moments for me to keep going, at least for now. 🙂

I’m still glad that I dropped out early on that one! 😆 As for Netflix, I’ve heard that there can be regional differences when it comes to what’s available, so I can’t be sure what you’re able to access. Still, I found this list that ought to give you a sampling of what’s available. Out of that list, I loved Prison Playbook, Hello My Twenties (also known as Age of Youth), Healer (I love this one, so much! 😍), Misaeng, Bad Guys, I Hear Your Voice, Let’s Eat, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, Pinocchio, and Secret Affair (masterpiece!). More recently, I enjoyed One Spring Night, which is also available on Netflix. I hope that helps! 🙂
Hey there! I have been a fan of you guys pretty recently. I have been curious of how you guys pick your dramas to watch. An Idea of a segment of post is that every month new dramas come out from all countries right? Like a watch it or nah type. It is where you look at all of the dramas that are coming out and find out if you would watch it right away, marathon it or not watch it at all based on the casting and plot. Thank you for reading!

I don’t feel much able to write the kind of posts you are suggesting, as it takes me a while to decide whether a show is worth checking out, and by the time I wrote anything, it would likely be late into a show’s cycle. For posts like those, you might want to check out Dramabeans’s Premiere Watch posts (such as this one) for kdramas, Asian Addicts Anonymous for her Coming To Netflix posts (such as this one), and Drama Panda’s Upcoming Chinese Dramas posts, like this one. Hi there, I think I’m so lucky finding your website, I will certainly spend my time digging into it haha. I would really appreciate if you can have a look at and do some reviews about the drama “Goodbye my princess” aka “East Palace” starring Chen XingXu and Peng Xiaoran. Its rating is not so high (7.5/10). I myself see the weak points of the drama. However, I am still blown away by the actors and the tragic story-line. It ended 3 months ago and I’m still stuck into it haha. So really hope that you can do the reviews, that will make my day.
