Patreon Year End Awards: Natalia’s Year In Dramas 2023!

Hey everyone!

Like what we did for the past couple of years, we’re having guest posts from the lovely folks on Patreon, to help us take stock of our drama years, yay! 🥳

We’ll be seeing about 2 guest posts per week, and this will unfold into January 2023, and that’s perfectly ok.

My annual year-in-review, which usually comes out in December, will also come out in January (or thereabouts 😅), after all the guest posts have been published.

If you missed Ele’s post, you can check it out here!

Today, I’m pleased to announce that Natalia is sharing her drama year, YAY Natalia!

I feel like one of the things that I can always count on Natalia for, is forthright honesty. If she doesn’t like a drama, she’ll tell you without sugarcoating it, and that’s the kind of drama bestie you need, right – coz we need to save on drama hours whenever we can, yes? 😁

If you like Natalia’s style and want to know what she thought about dramas last year, you can check out her post here!

I hope you guys enjoy!

Patreon Year End Awards: Ele’s Year In Dramas 2023!

My friends!

It’s that time of the year again, when we look back on our drama years, and decide which dramas were worthy of our love, and which dramas we ought to think about putting in that application to get our drama hours back, heh. 😁

It’s become a bit of a tradition by now, with quite a few folks on Patreon actively thinking about these year-end posts, even before I announced that we were doing this again. How cool is that? 🤩

Like last year, we’ll be taking things in a more relaxed direction this year, so that we don’t all get stressed out from this (and so that I can attempt to stay on top of my Patreon schedule, at the same time 😅).

Again, like last year, we’ll be seeing about 2 guest posts per week, and this will unfold into January 2024, and that’s perfectly ok.

AND, my annual year-in-review, which used to come out in December, will again, like last year, come out in January (or thereabouts 😅), after all the guest posts have been published.

Ele is kicking us off this year (thank you, Ele! ❤️).

Not only did Ele make time to write this post despite being a busy artist who also cares for her grandson (Ele’s a very young grandmom!), she volunteered for the first slot available on the schedule I released – talk about being feisty and dauntless! 😉

If you’d like to read more of Ele’s writing, you can check out her other brilliant post, where she talks about fangirling, Jane Austen style, here!

You might also like to visit Ele’s website, where she talks about art and writing.

I hope you guys enjoy!

Ahem. Drum roll, please.. 🥁🥁🥁

Today, the blog turns ELEVEN, everyone! 😱

Wow, right?

It feels like not so long ago, that we celebrated the blog turning ten (here!), and yet, a whole year’s flown past in what feels like the blink of an eye, and now, I get to say that my blog’s 11 whole years old.

Uh. My blog is officially a ‘tween, you guys. 😅

Guest Post: Soundtrack #1.5 – How a kdrama changed my life

Have you ever wished that real life could be like the romantic kdramas on your screen?

Well, that actually happened to our very own Ella, whose real life became very kdramatic, when she least expected it!

She first told us about it over on Patreon, during one of the Entertainment Drops, when I’d shared the trailer for Soundtrack #2, which is coming up soon, and we basically all lost our collective minds squeeing over the summary that she’d provided. 🤭

One thing led to another, and now, Ella’s here to share her real life kdrama love story with all of us, with fresh new details that weren’t included in her initial summary. Eee!!

I’ve also taken the liberty of doctoring a Soundtrack #1 poster, so that we’d have a customized poster for Ella’s story, because it totally deserves one, yes? 😁

Thank you Ella, for sharing your lovely story with us!

I hope you all love her story as much as I do!

KFG ❤️

PS: Also, in case you’d like to read more of Ella’s writing, she’s shared a guest post with us before, in our Stories from the Community series, which you can find here!

Flash Review: Hi Venus [China]

Remember when I said that I binge-watched (and loved!) Go Ahead (review here!) when I was sick recently?

Well, what I didn’t mention, is that because I was sick for a good while, I actually binge-watched a number of shows.

It turns out that when you’re not actually writing episode notes or reviews, you can watch a lot more drama; I mean, who knew? 👀

After I finished Go Ahead, I picked this show to watch, because not only did it come quite enthusiastically recommended by some of you, it’s also by the same writer who wrote Go Ahead (who also wrote Meet Yourself and Find Yourself, both of which I also enjoyed very well).

So of course that just bumped it right to the top of my binge queue, right?

This Month On Patreon: December 2023

It’s the 1st of December, everyone! I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that 2023 is almost over; like, what?? 😱

In this month’s post, I cover:

1. A personal update: how I’m doing, post-surgery

2. Why I’m on Patreon, and why I hope you’ll consider supporting me on Patreon;

3. Which Patreon-related reviews are due this month;

4. What shows I’m considering for coverage on Patreon, to replace shows that have completed their cycles, and

5. What you can expect, as a patron.

I hope you guys find this helpful &/or informative, and I hope you’ll consider supporting me on Patreon! ❤️

Review: A Time Called You

THE SHORT VERDICT:

Overall, I’d say that Show is a reasonably solid remake of its source material, Taiwanese drama Someday Or One Day (SOOD).

It doesn’t quite capture all of the magic of SOOD, but it does make everything easier to process and digest, comparatively speaking, and it does so while being very pretty to look at, since Show’s production values are extremely polished, and its cast, very good-looking.

If you had trouble getting into SOOD, perhaps because you find it hard to dial into the vibe of Taiwanese dramas, or perhaps because you find it hard to watch dramas that aren’t Korean, then this is a drama that would likely work well for you.

Also, if you found it difficult to keep up with all the twists, turns and developments in SOOD, this show could also work well for you.

I’ll explain why, in the rest of this review.

Review: My Journey To You [China]

THE SHORT VERDICT:

Show is, for a good stretch, dark, stylish drama crack that I inhaled with glee.

I found the story and the story world fascinating, I felt invested in our main characters, and it felt like Show had a solid, smart grip on the story that it wanted to tell. I genuinely loved all the twists and turns that Show served up in each rollercoaster of an episode.

However, I do think that Show’s weaknesses become more apparent, when you get into the later episodes. Sometimes plot logic took a beating; sometimes details didn’t add up completely. Also, I feel like Show’s handling of the finale is likely to be divisive.

All that said, I found this to be a solid ride, overall, and don’t regret investing my drama hours – and my feelings! And my brain cells! – in this one.
