Spoiler Zone: Someday Or One Day Episodes 3 & 4

Welcome to the Spoiler Zone, everyone!

This is for those of you who want to discuss spoilers, from a “I’ve seen the show and WOW now I’m noticing all these other details in retrospect” sort of angle.

Here’s a Spoiler Zone for you to dig as deep as you’d like, into spoiler territory, WITHOUT the need for spoiler tags or other warnings.

Edited to add! No Open Thread next week; we are taking a break for Christmas! Next Open Thread will be on 1 Jan 2022!!

My only request is, PLEASE BE EXTRA MINDFUL OF WHERE YOU ARE COMMENTING. Meaning, please don’t get mixed up, and start talking spoilers in the Open Thread, which could seriously mar the watch experience for a new viewer, OR, a viewer who would really prefer to have the rewatch feel as fresh as possible.

Other than that, READER BEWARE: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

For the main discussion of episodes 3 & 4, which only deals with spoilers up to the point of the group watch, go here.

ENJOY YOUR SPOILER ZONE, MY FRIENDS! ❤️

I need clarification on creepy psychologist Dr. Xie from 2019: Is he the creepy classmate from 1998 or creepy classmate’s little brother?

Didn’t the creepy classmate end up in the asylum while his creepier little brother ended up pretending to be the older brother/creepy classmate? I remember some kind of switcheroo between the two brothers, but I am not sure how and when it occurred.

Yes, the psychiatrist was a psychopath as a child — tortured animals and such.

But I’m pretty sure it was only as an adult that he went back in time into his older brother’s body to commit those crimes.

At one point he is interrupted (in the future) before he can kill someone while using the tape cassette to go back in time.

Important point for the rest of us: the so-called creepy older brother was not creepy at all.

He was one of those persons we too readily stereotype as “creepy” simply because he was painfully awkward and geeky and therefore didn’t fit in.

I think. I could be wrong, but that’s my memory of the show.

It’s kind of trippy how the time loop creates their love. In the scene at the end of episode 4, Li Zi Wei is starting to become interested in Yun Ru because he’s intrigued by the way she looks at him with intense longing, not realizing that it’s actually Yu Xuan longing for Wang Quan Sheng. Then later Yu Xuan falls in love with Wang Quan Sheng because of his devoted pursuit of her, not realizing that it’s actually Li Zi Wei who already fell in love with her when she was Yun Ru.

Also, I was reminded this second time around how annoying the office coworkers are, and I’m surprised it didn’t affect my overall feelings about this show. I can think of a few other shows where the over the top humor knocked my rating from five stars down to four, as much as I still enjoyed the show (Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Marriage Not Dating, Another Oh Hae Young…). With this show, though, I hated the office coworkers but still gave the overall show a 5 star rating.

Can someone very quickly remind me who wrote the line ‘he is Wang Quang Sheng‘ in Yun Ru’s diary?🙏🏽 I believe it was revealed in the future episodes? 😇

Not that it matters, but why couldn’t Yu Xuan figure this out in ep 4? It’s proven that they both have very different hand-writings? She could have compared the prev pages and known it was Yun Ru who wrote, right?
One of the things that still niggles me to this day!😜

Right, the other possibility is the ‘future Yu Xuan‘ from her later time-trips wrote it in the diary for herself, but it couldn’t have been her, or else she’d have recognized her own hand-writing….

I thought the ‘who wrote it‘ was definitely an answer (for us audience) to prove/disprove certain theories by ep 4. I think the writers deliberately didn’t reveal it, (and when it was written), to leave some possibilities open!

Yunru wrote it, attempting to imitate YX’s handwriting. This was during the later period their roles were reversed and YX was the one helplessly trapped in the mind cave/room.

YX watched her write it and objected. They exchanged commentary on it.

However I can’t remember what the point was. It had something to do with Yunru choosing to prioritize her own happiness, even though that would keep YX trapped in the mind room or maybe wipe out the future for various other people.

I think maybe she did it to strengthen YX’s motivation to travel back in time in the first place and thereby win over ZW with her more confident personality? At that point Yunru had regained control of her body and was super happy about ZW’s attentiveness.

But why that diary entry makes sense, in terms of causing the time travel, no longer makes sense to me!

Although I don’t remember all the details, I definitely remember feeling great empathy for Yunru.

Everyone in her world loved confident YX. The two boys, all the other kids at school, and even her mom and brother.

So when Yunru regained control of her body, she thought she would inherit all that, as long as she could successfully imitate YX.

But she couldn’t. And so everyone acts disappointed that she was back to her old self. Her only true self, as it turns out.

Even she hates her true self.

Actually Junjie was shown several times to be wondering what happened to make Yunru changed. I think he was the only one who truly liked and missed the original Yunru.

I appreciated that he always affirmed her real self was good. Even though she hated herself and wished she could be different. And it was mad even worse cos she had a taste of what it could be like being different but it was not authentic and she couldn’t sustain it. Which added to Yuxuan’s guilt, she didn’t realise she was adding to Yunru’s pain.

Excellent point. I’d forgotten that. He’d always liked her.

Yes Yunru realised that it was seeing that line in the diary in 2019 that made Yuxuan put on the Walkman the second time around. If Yuxuan hadn’t done that, she wouldn’t have built up the romance with Ziwei and Yunru wouldn’t be able to vicariously enjoy the relationship. Yuxuan didn’t want Yunru to write it to avoid Lee Ziwei being murdered in 2019 by the doctor. Mind trip!
