Review: Love Next Door

THE SHORT VERDICT:

The drama worked out to be a pretty mixed experience for me.

In short, I thought some of the arcs dealing with familial relationships were truly excellently written, with certain beats making me feel particularly seen and understood. 🥲

Unfortunately, I felt that some arcs, including the OTP arc, were unevenly handled, and I found certain portions quite underwhelming.

Overall, I do think that this could be a pretty enjoyable watch, with some lens adjustments – which I’ll talk about next.

Review: Serendipity’s Embrace

THE SHORT VERDICT:

If you’re looking for something short, cute and not very deep, this mini drama could potentially work well for you.

Chae Jong Hyeop and Kim So Hyun make a cute couple, and our drama world is very prettily shot, and has a lovely, breezy OST to score it all.

On the downside, there is little to no depth in this, and Show does seem more interested in problem-solving, rather than basking in Cuteness, once it hits its second half.

If you’re willing to roll with that, this does work out to be a harmless little ball of fluff.

THE SHORT VERDICT:

On the upside, Show starts out really strong, with a fun premise that pops, and an OTP that works together really well.

Basically, Kim So Hyun and Minhyun are adorable together, and this was THE highlight of my watch.

Somewhere along the way, however, it does feel like Show loses its handle on things, somewhat, and the balance between fun, breezy rom-com and angsty murder backstory gets thrown out of whack, at least to my eyes.

Show does manage to tie everything together for the finish line, but I do still wish that Show could have managed to stay as strong, in its middle and finale stretch, as it had been in its opening episodes.
