Review: Run On

THE SHORT VERDICT:

Widely loved and well-regarded, Show boasts a cast of quirky characters, who learn from one another, how to grow as individuals and how to better live life, in the course of their relationships with one another.

To be brutally honest, despite my best efforts, Show’s brand of quirk never did sit easily with me, and I also never felt like I was naturally able to “get” these characters fully.

However, on the upside, the pockets of healthy relationship dynamics, and the regular nuggets of wholesome wisdom that are sprinkled through our story, definitely sweeten the watch experience. On top of that, Show does offer some solid food for thought as well.

Not my personal favorite, but it could well be yours. Definitely a case of your mileage may vary.

Welcome to the Open Thread, everyone! We are officially at the halfway point of our story, and boy, are things starting to ramp up in a big way! 😬😅

I hope you guys are ready to chat about Money Flower episodes 11 & 12! Here are our usual ground rules, before we begin:

1. Please don’t post spoilers in the Open Thread, except for events that have happened in the show, up to this point. I repeat: no spoilers for future episodes please!

2. Discussions on this thread don’t have to close when newer threads open, just so you know! But as we progress through our group watch, please keep the discussions clear of spoilers from future episodes, so that future readers coming to this thread won’t be accidentally spoiled. Flash Review: Off The Course [Drama Special]

I realize that over the last little while, I’ve grown a significant soft spot for jTBC dramas in general. Sure, there’s no network that consistently puts out great shows, but I have noticed that more often than not, the shows put out by jTBC tend to work nicely for me.

Which is why, when I saw that jTBC was putting out this little drama special, I couldn’t not check it out. Well, that, and the fact that this story sounds like just the kind of heartwarming, poignant sort of story that I’d eat up with a spoon. 😉

At just 2 hours of screen time, Show manages to pack quite a lot of meat on its bones, and I’m suitably impressed.

Repost: Deep-diving into the bullying issue – A podcast by Dramas Over Flowers

Image borrowed from Dramas Over Flowers, of course 😉

Welcome to my first ever repost, in over 8 years of blogging, everyone! 🤩 Just by that fact alone, you can imagine that the original post must be very special indeed, to galvanize me into reposting it, yes? 😉

My friends Saya, Anisa and Paroma, whom you may recognize from their work on Dramabeans, and who are the ladies behind Dramas Over Flowers, recently did a fantastic deep-dive podcast episode on the issue of bullying in Korea.

They interview Professor CedarBough Saeji, who is a professor of Korean Studies, and who has lived and taught in Korea for many years, and the resulting conversation is both thoughtful and thought-provoking, as they explore the multiple factors at play in this issue which has been grabbing a great deal of media attention of late.

I noticed that quite a few of you had questions and thoughts about the bullying issue when I posted my thoughts on Ji Soo’s fall from grace, so I thought this would be a great follow-up.

Open Thread: Money Flower Episodes 9 & 10

Welcome to the Open Thread, everyone! Woah. We get some major developments this pair of episodes, and it feels like our drama world is tilted on its axis, as a result.

It’s kind of mind-blowing that we’re not even at our halfway point yet! 🤯

Also, in case any of you missed it, slimharpo makes a compelling case for the idea that Pil Joo and Mal Ran are not actually sleeping together.

You can check out her comment here. Personally, I think Show purposely leaves it ambiguous, so that viewers can interpret the clues in the way that works for them.

Flash Review: Must You Go? [Web Drama]

To be honest, everywhere I’ve looked, I’ve seen a fondness for this show, which is why I’ve been patiently trying to get into the zone of loving this show, with each episode that I’ve watched.

Sadly, try as I might, I just couldn’t find the “love zone” with this one. This doesn’t mean I hated it, though. I just didn’t love it as much as everyone else seems to.

Also, just because I didn’t love it, doesn’t mean you won’t. Different strokes for different folks after all, right? I hope this quick review will help give you an idea of where you might land with this one.

And if you happen to land in the love zone with this show, give it a little extra love for me, please?

This Month On Patreon: April 2021

Hi everyone! This is a new feature that I’ve decided to start, thanks to feedback from Mahima, who shared with me that she hadn’t realized that I have a Patreon page, until I’d mentioned it in my recent post on the Ji Soo bullying controversy.

This made me realize that the various, more unobtrusive ways that I let you guys know about my Patreon page (via the sidebar, blurbs at the end of relevant reviews, and my Watching page) aren’t actually enough to create sufficient awareness, particularly for those of you who don’t visit all that often, or those of you who don’t happen to spend a lot of time exploring the blog.

That inspired me to start a monthly post on:

1. what’s happening on Patreon in a given month,

2. exactly when you can expect to see various Patreon-related reviews in the month,

3. what shows I’m considering for coverage on Patreon, to replace shows that have completed their cycles, and

4. what you can expect, as a patron.

I hope you guys find this helpful &/or informative, and I hope you’ll consider supporting me on Patreon! ❤️

Open Thread: Dr. Romantic Episodes 9 & 10

Welcome to the Open Thread, everyone! Show gives us more medical emergencies than I thought possible to fit into two hours of television, and at the same time, serves up some important character breakthroughs, and I found it altogether pretty satisfying, all around. 😊

Dear kfangurl: How can I stop myself from becoming jaded with dramas?

Uh.. I need some help seeing you with new eyes..?

Vaish writes:

Hi kfangurl,

I am now a kdrama fan for quite a few years with several dramas under my cap. Of late, I feel that I’ve grown too critical. The kdrama world is no longer my escapist fantasy and stress buster.

I keep nit picking. I feel disappointed (there’s that magic charm missing) by recent dramas (True Beauty, Lovestruck in the City just a few examples). I would have enjoyed these premises earlier.

Should I just keep watching old dramas? Can you help?
