Spoiler Zone: My Mister Episodes 5 & 6

Welcome to the Spoiler Zone, everyone!

This is for those of you who want to discuss spoilers, from a “I’ve seen the show and WOW now I’m noticing all these other details in retrospect” sort of angle.

Here’s a Spoiler Zone for you to dig as deep as you’d like, into spoiler territory, WITHOUT the need for spoiler tags or other warnings.

My only request is, PLEASE BE EXTRA MINDFUL OF WHERE YOU ARE COMMENTING. Meaning, please don’t get mixed up, and start talking spoilers in the Open Thread, which could seriously mar the watch experience for a new viewer, OR, a viewer who would really prefer to have the rewatch feel as fresh as possible.

Other than that, READER BEWARE: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

For the main discussion of episodes 5 & 6, which only deals with spoilers up to the point of the group watch, go here.

ENJOY YOUR SPOILER ZONE, MY FRIENDS! ❤️

After Dong Hoon piggybacked grandma and walked out the door, as he turned around and faced Ji An, there was a long silence before he said “You are nice.” During that long silence, there was a sound of siren that played in the background. Interestingly, at the start of ep 13 when DH walked JA home and JA asked for a hug that DH refused, as DH was walking down the stairs, there was also the sound of siren playing. In ep 12, as the hugye gang walked JA home, as DH and Jung Hee were walking down the stairs, right after DH said “Bye,” there is again that siren sound, but this time it was very, very soft, barely audible. The background music also made it almost impossible to hear. But it’s there, and it can be heard as DH was walking down the steps, and also as the camera focused on JA’s face.

Do you guys think they were put there intentionally? If yes, what were they for and what could it symbolize?

Will definitely need to “hear” for these sirens on a re-watch. It reminds me of the hot water kettle boiling at the end of Episode 14 when Dong Hoon says, “Lee Ji An, call me.” (Be still my heart!!!!) Isn’t it great how the show tries to appeal to all the different senses?

Interesting question. I can’t tell whether it’s symbolic. I always thought it was just city noise at night. In that scene, right after DH told JA “you are nice”/“you are a good person”, the sirens’ sounds actually disappeared. It’s like the world went silent, with DH’s words hanging in the air.

Hi Maria, hmmm, maybe the silence afterward is a clue that the siren was put there intentionally. After all, his “You are nice” is such a key line in the show and a turning point for Ji An.

I agree that it was a turning point.
During a testimony on DH’s behalf in episode 12, JA said:
”I’m used to being ignored and despised. I didn’t work hard to get recognized or hear praises. But now I want to do well. I want to thank Mr. Park for making me think that perhaps I’m a good person.”
