Open Thread: Dr. Romantic Special Episode 21

Welcome to the Open Thread, everyone! Aw. Watching this special episode was like spending an extra hour with a bunch of old friends. Doesn’t this picture make you smile? 🥰

Just a little bit of admin and logistics, before we begin:

1. I’ll be putting up a poll very soon (it’s here!), so that you can vote for the show(s) that you’d like to watch next, as a community. You can vote for up to 3 shows, and you can also revote, if you change your mind. Do take time to vote!

2. An announcement post will be up next week, on Wednesday, 19 May 2021, when we’ll find out what we’ll be watching together next.

3. Our next group watch will begin on Wednesday, 26 May 2021. Our Editor’s Choice group watch will begin on Saturday, 29 May 2021.

Without further ado, here are my reactions to this week’s special episode; have fun in the Open Thread, everyone! ❤️

Open Thread: Dr. Romantic Episodes 19 & 20

Welcome to the Open Thread, everyone! Group fist-bump, that we’ve made it to the end, together! ❤️😉

I hope you guys are ready to chat about Dr. Romantic episodes 19 & 20! A little bit of logistics, and our usual ground rules, before we begin:

1. We will be discussing the special episode (listed as episode 21 on some sites) next week, on 12 May 2021. No spoilers for the special episode, please!

2. I will be putting up a brainstorming post shortly (edit: it’s here!), where we can discuss what shows we’d like to consider for our next group watch – if you guys still want to keep the group watch going, that is. Please take some time to pop on over, to share your thoughts! 😃

Without further ado, here are my reactions to this pair of episodes; have fun in the Open Thread, everyone! ❤️

Open Thread: Dr. Romantic Episodes 17 & 18

Welcome to the Open Thread, everyone! Wouldja just look at these contented faces? Ah, I love it when Dong Joo and In Beom work well together, seriously. 🤩

I hope you guys are ready to chat about Dr. Romantic episodes 17 & 18! A little bit of logistics, and our usual ground rules, before we begin:

1. Because this show is listed as 20 episodes with 1 special episode, I will give my final verdict and final grade after next week’s pair of episodes, on 5 May 2021. We will still take an extra week, to discuss the special episode (listed as episode 21 on some sites), on 12 May 2021.

2. Please don’t post spoilers in the Open Thread, except for events that have happened in the show, up to this point. I repeat: no spoilers for future episodes please! We have quite a few first-time viewers among us, and we don’t want to spoil anything for anyone.

3. Discussions on this thread don’t have to close when newer threads open, just so you know! But as we progress through our group watch, please keep the discussions clear of spoilers from future episodes, so that future readers coming to this thread won’t be accidentally spoiled. Does that make sense?

Without further ado, here are my reactions to this pair of episodes; have fun in the Open Thread, everyone! ❤️

Open Thread: Dr. Romantic Episodes 13 & 14

Welcome to the Open Thread, everyone! We get some significant movement on the OTP front, and considering that we are about two-thirds of the way through our story, I’d say it sounds about right. 😉

Open Thread: Dr. Romantic Episodes 11 & 12

Welcome to the Open Thread, everyone! Dong Joo gets put in the hot seat more than a little bit, this pair of episodes, and overall, I’m just really pleased with how much growth we see from him. 😊

Open Thread: Dr. Romantic Episodes 5 & 6

Welcome to the Open Thread, everyone! Show is confidently racing right along, and I feel like I’m happily along for this bumper-car ride that’s blithely throwing me from side to unexpected side, while Show serves up quite a few developments from out of left field. Fun. 🤪😄

I hope you guys are ready to chat about Dr. Romantic episodes 5 & 6! A little bit of admin logistics, and our usual ground rules, before we begin:

1. Thanks to those of you who clarified that episode 21, which is listed as a “special episode,” is an actual organic continuation of the story. Since that’s the case, let’s also include episode 21 in our group watch. If we give episode 21 its own Open Thread, our Dr. Romantic group watch will end on 28 April 2021, instead of the originally forecasted 21 April. Or, would you guys prefer to cover episodes 19, 20 and 21 in a single discussion? Let me know in the comments!

2. Please don’t post spoilers in the Open Thread, except for events that have happened in the show, up to this point. I repeat: no spoilers for future episodes please! We have quite a few first-time viewers among us, and we don’t want to spoil anything for anyone.

Review: My Country

THE SHORT VERDICT:

At its heart, My Country is a polished, beautifully-shot tale of star-crossed brotherhood, and the search for acceptance, meaning, and self.

Granted, Show has its flaws. Sometimes the logic stretches require more suspension of disbelief than I would like; sometimes the emotional tension feels like it’s stretched out for too long and gets tiring; sometimes Show feels like it’s cycling in place, just a little bit. On the upside, though, Show is filled with strong performances from its cast, knows how to take us on our characters’ emotional journeys, and is scored with a consistently evocative soundtrack that is by turn gloriously epic and plaintively poignant.

If you’re able to roll with Show’s shortcomings, it’s not hard to get sucked into this one.

Review: Thirty But Seventeen [Still 17]

THE SHORT VERDICT:

Thirty But Seventeen is a pretty special snowflake of a drama, whichever way I look at it.

I mean, it manages to be sweet, fluffy and cute, yet extremely heartfelt, while dishing out occasional deep nuggets of wisdom, and dealing with our main characters’ trauma-related anxiety in a pretty meaningful manner, to boot. Plus, no one in this drama world is an actual villain either. On top of that, the drama doesn’t even get boring, despite the absence of a villain. Say, what?

No, this show isn’t perfect, but then again, no show ever is, and this one did so many things right, that I feel like I can’t quibble too much, in the overall scheme of things. Totes recommend.

Dropped: Temperature Of Love

I am calling it quits on this one, you guys.

26.5 episodes into this show’s 40, I have hit a Serious Brick Wall. I just can’t with this show, anymore. Now I kinda wish I had been less patient with this show. Like, if I’d been quicker to judge this one as boring and underwhelming as so many other viewers did before me, maybe I wouldn’t have ended up wasting so much time on this one, y’know?

Oh well. I suppose this is one of those times when you guys can maybe learn from my mistakes.. because then it wouldn’t have all been for nothing?
