From its premise, to its talented cast, to the strong deliveries of said cast, Show has a lot going for it.
Show does have some weaknesses in the storytelling, but overall, I found this to be absorbing and even quite gripping, sometimes.
Your mileage may certainly vary, but I found this to be pretty solid, on balance.
This show isn’t for everyone. It’s more thematic exploration than straightforward story, and for that reason, I feel it is divisive. Some people like this one a lot, while others think it’s terrible.
If you’re open to exploring uglier themes around the human condition, and don’t mind a narrative that asks more questions than it answers, this could work for you.
If, on the other hand, you’re more interested in the telling of a story, and its characters’ journeys, and how those are meaningful, this might not be your thing – because that doesn’t appear to be where Show’s interest lies.
Not bad, overall.
THE SHORT VERDICT:
Show isn’t perfect by any means, but what it does right, it does so well, that I can’t help wanting to serve my heart up to Show on a plate.
It’s true that Show gets rather indulgent of itself from time to time, and it’s also true that some of the handling feels almost patronizing, in spots.
However, our characters continue to be lovable and wonderful, and Show continues to do an excellent job of teasing out their growth and relationships in a way that feels organic; it just has a way of grabbing my heart.
An absolutely worthy follow up to Season 1.
