Patreon Year End Awards: lotusgirl’s Year In Dramas 2023!

Hey everyone!

Like what we did for the past couple of years, we’re having guest posts from the lovely folks on Patreon, to help us take stock of our drama years, yay! 🥳

We’ll be seeing about 2 guest posts per week, and this will unfold into January 2023, and that’s perfectly ok.

My annual year-in-review, which usually comes out in December, will also come out in January (or thereabouts 😅), after all the guest posts have been published.

If you missed our earlier posts, you can check them out as follows: Ele, Natalia, JJ, Sean, j3ffc, Uyen, MC, Elaine.

Today, I’m pleased to announce that lotusgirl is sharing her drama year.

We haven’t seen lotusgirl around as much this past year, but, as you’ll see in her post, she’s been enjoying a full and active life, what with her varied interests AND her expanding brood of grandkids!

Among her many talents, lotusgirl is also a skilled photographer and artist, and you can check out more of her fantastic work at her blog here! 🤩 You can find her on Instagram @lamosscreative as well.

I don’t know how she does it, but in spite of it all, lotusgirl still makes time for dramas, and for us, her pals, over at Patreon.

Thanks lotusgirl, for making time for us – and for taking the time to write this post!

I hope you guys enjoy!

Patreon Year End Awards: Elaine’s Year In Dramas 2023!

Hey everyone!

Like what we did for the past couple of years, we’re having guest posts from the lovely folks on Patreon, to help us take stock of our drama years, yay! 🥳

Today, I’m pleased to announce that Elaine is sharing her drama year.

You know that Korean phrase 열심히 살아 (yeolsimhi sal-a), which literally means to live hardworking-ly?

Well, I feel that that’s what Elaine does, because she’s got so much going on, in the multiple roles that she plays, in her life.

With work, family, kids, friends, a dog, and everything else in-between, Elaine’s got a lot going on, and I’m so grateful that she continues to make time for dramas – and for us! – in the midst of it all.

Not only that, she also makes time to remind me not to push myself too much, and often gives me suggestions on how to do things in a way that would allow me to be kinder to myself. Thank you, Elaine. 🥲

If you’d like to read more of Elaine’s writing, she wrote a wonderfully insightful post about doppelgängers and the question of identity, which you can check out here.

I hope you guys enjoy!

Review: Daily Dose Of Sunshine

THE SHORT VERDICT:

In a nutshell, I’d say that Show is two main things.

One, it works as an educational, illuminating PSA, aiming to help everyone who watches, to come to a better understanding of the struggles that many people face, with regard to mental health.

Two, Show is, at the same time, a tender, compassionate representation of all the patients who have mental health struggles, thereby showing them that they are seen, and they are not alone, and that there is hope.

Poignant, tender, and important.

Flash Review: Lighting Up The Stars [Movie][China]

I’m feeling very grateful to my Netflix algorithm as I type this, because without it, I may have never discovered this movie.

And (spoiler alert), I really, really liked this movie. 🥹

Show had me laughing, crying, and basically serving up my heart to it on a plate, which is already very impressive on a normal day.

This was even more impressive than average, however, because I was feeling out of sorts, while looking for something to watch – and yet, once I started, I found myself quickly feeling completely invested, y’all.

Yes, I think this movie is quite special. 🥲

Come see why you might like to check out this movie too?

Patreon Year End Awards: MC’s Year In Dramas 2023!

If you missed our earlier posts, you can check them out as follows: Ele, Natalia, JJ, Sean, j3ffc, Uyen.

Today, I’m pleased to announce that MC is sharing her drama year.

Once upon a time, some years ago, MC mentioned in one of our conversations here on the blog, that she was about to become a mom, and while I was super happy for her, I also (secretly! And wistfully 😩😅) wondered if this was the beginning of the end, of her drama time, and therefore, our conversations.

(I mean, it’s a fair and reasonable thing to wonder, I think, since my own sister stopped watching dramas altogether, when she became a mom and had to reprioritize things in her life. 😅)

I’m SO happy that MC never left us, and today, is still such a warm and positive presence here and on Patreon, even while juggling all the other priorities in her life. Thank YOU, MC, for making us one of your priorities. ❤️🥲😘

If you’d like to read more of MC’s writing, she recently went to Korea (fresh from recovering from a broken toe, no less! 😱) and wrote about her travels in a fun guest post for us, which you can check out here.

I hope you guys enjoy!

Today, I’m pleased to announce that Uyen is sharing her drama year.

Uyen hasn’t been around as much this year, due to very important real-life things (like grad school – congrats Uyen! 🥳), so I’m really touched that she’s making time to share her drama year with us, nonetheless (thanks Uyen! 😘).

Of course, I’m always glad when Uyen does manage to come hang out with us, coz she’s a Junho-loving fangirl, just like me. 🥰😁

Uyen also writes about dramas on her own blog, which you can visit here.

I hope you guys enjoy!

Flash Review: Ajoomma [Movie] [Singapore-Korea]

If you’re looking for a movie to watch this holiday season, I’d like to suggest Ajoomma as a contender for your time.

Yes, it’s not quite a typical holiday movie, but I do feel that it serves up enough heartwarming feels – with lashings of poignance – to make the cut.

I watched this as my holiday movie pick, this past Christmas weekend, and ended up liking it very well.

Come see if you’d like it too, maybe?

Review: Castaway Diva

THE SHORT VERDICT:

With an interesting premise and a solid cast, Show starts strong out of the gate, at least in my experience.

I loved the younger days portion of our story, and the bonding of our key characters, which sucked me in right away.

Once we move to the present-day portion of our story, though, I feel like Show starts to lose focus, in terms of what it really wants to do, or be.

Show is still feel-good and warm, but because of its lack of focus (at least in my opinion), the watch experience feels kind of.. digressive, in a manner of speaking?

Some lens adjustments are likely to help, which I’ll talk about shortly.

Overall, not bad – but it could’ve been so much better, I feel.

Today, I’m pleased to announce that j3ffc is sharing his drama year.

Don’t be fooled by j3ffc’s trademark self-deprecating humor, you guys; the more I get to know him, the more I feel that j3ffc’s more imaginative, insightful and wise than he might want you to think.

Plus, he’s thoughtful, kind, and really funny too. Very often I find myself giggling out loud at j3ffc’s witty comments. Thank you j3ffc, for just being you. 🥰

If you missed it, I highly recommend checking out j3ffc’s dream drama post, where he took a real-life incident featured in a news article, and turned it into a kdrama for us, complete with casting picks. 🤩 You can check it out here!

I hope you guys enjoy!
